Titans Ink New York City Standout Brittney Jackson

DETROIT (6/24/2015) -- It has been a hot summer for the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team as head coach Bernard Scott announced his third signing in New York City guard Brittney Jackson (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth).

Jackson joins last week's signees in transfer Cortney Williams and incoming freshman Taylor Malone, and like Malone, she will have four years of eligibility. Williams – a transfer from Loyola (IL) - will sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have three years of eligibility left.

"I am very excited about getting Brittney," said coach Scott. "We were lucky to get a quality player like her this late and add her to a great summer signing period that already includes Cortney and Taylor."

Jackson comes to the Motor City from the Big Apple, where she was one of the stars at Nazareth Regional High School in Brooklyn, New York. As a senior – the lone senior on the squad – she guided the Kingsmen to a state championship and a New York State Federation title. The team captain averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 assists, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game and was at her best when it counted pouring in a season-high 22 points in the state semifinals.

"She's the type of player we were looking for to complete our 2015-16 roster," said coach Scott. "Brittany has played with and against some of the best talent in the country and brings a winning mentality coming from Nazareth High School. She has a great family, and we're happy she decided Detroit was the best place for her future."

The 5-7 guard started her prep career helping Nazareth to a city and state championship as well as a runner-up effort at the NY Federation Championship. She came back the next year to tally 9.5 points and 2.3 assists per game, earning the team's Most Improved Player as a sophomore. Another city and state championship followed even though the team had just seven players.  In her junior year, she nailed a game-changing 3-pointer to propel the Kingsmen to a title at the NIKE TOC Championship, held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Jackson also played AAU for the NDO Lady Hornets and the Lady X-Men.

The Titans are currently in the middle of announcing their non-conference home schedule for 2015-16 and have already unveiled home match-ups with Bradley, Michigan and Niagara.
