DETROIT (11/20/2016) -- Following three road games to begin the 2016-17 campaign, the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team ushers in the home schedule Monday night, welcoming Kent State to Calihan Hall for a 7 p.m. tip. The game is set to be streamed live on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN Applications. Fans who bring a canned good or non-perishable item,
will gain free entry into Monday's game.
Detroit Mercy (1-2) split during the opening weekend of the season, winning at Delaware State. The Titans dropped a game at East Carolina in overtime, before falling against Bradley on the road Friday morning.
The red, white and blue are 21-18 all-time in home openers in their 40th season of women's basketball. Last season, the Titans were 8-8 in home games in Detroit under head coach
Bernard Scott. Detroit Mercy has just 12 home games in his second year as head coach, including just three of 11 on the non-conference docket.

Last Time Out
The Titans played their third-straight game on the road to open the 2016-17 season, falling at Bradley on Friday by a 70-60 margin. Graduate transfer forward
Kelsey Mitchell had a career day for Detroit Mercy, totaling 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for her second career double-double and first as a Titan. Senior

Detroit Mercy led in the game at the half, 27-25, but fell behind after three quarters and couldn't pull ahead late in the fourth quarter. The Titans shot 32.9 percent in the contest, including 3-for-24 from beyond the arc. Detroit Mercy did have eight blocks in the game and turned the ball over just 11 times, a season low thus far.
All-Time Series
The Titans and Kent State have met six times previously, but not since the 1987-88 season. Detroit Mercy is 3-0 in home games played against the Golden Flashes. Detroit Mercy plays four Mid-American Conference foes this year, hosting Western Michigan (Dec. 21) and playing road games at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 6) and Toledo (Dec. 21).
Scouting Kent State
The Golden Flashes are 2-1 on the young season, having most recently dropped a 68-65 contest to Robert Morris at home on Saturday. It's the first road game of the season for Kent State. KSU also earned victories over Bradley and Eastern Kentucky in its first two games of the 2016-17 season. Last season, Kent State went 6-23, which included a 3-15 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Todd Starkey is in his first season as the head coach.
Larissa Lurken leads the team in scoring, averaging 27.0 points per game in three contests. Jordan Korinek also averages in double figures at 11.3 points per game for KSU. Lurken leads the team in rebounding (9.0 per game) and has already made 34 free throws. Naddiyah Cross has 19 assists for the Golden Flashes. As a team, Kent State is averaging 74.0 points per game, while giving up just 62.3 points per contest after three games.
Moving On Up
Senior guard
Rosanna Reynolds began the season 15th on the all-time scoring list and has passed four former Titans and is currently 11th all-time in scoring with 1,288 points. She also moved past Michelle James for fourth place in total assists (408), becoming the fourth player in school history to reach the 400-assist plateau. In her start against Bradley, Reynolds became the sixth played in school history to make 100 career starts for the Titans.
Junior
Haleigh Ristovski is also moving up in the Titan record books, having passed Shareta Brown in total rebounds. She is tied for eighth place all-time with 633 caroms. Ristovski is also 11th in career 3-pointers made (119) and tied-for-11th in total blocks (71).
Titans Picked Second, Reynolds Earns Honor
Detroit Mercy received 253 votes to finish second to reigning league champion Green Bay, who earned 299 votes and received 29 of the 30 first-place tallies. Senior guardÂ
Rosanna Reynolds, a two-time All-League player, was named the Preseason Player of the Year, while junior forwardÂ
Brianne Cohen was named to the Preseason All-HL Second Team.Â
The selection of second in the preseason poll is the highest for the squad since the 2012-13 season, which Detroit Mercy was also picked second behind the Phoenix. The Titans finished last season fourth in the regular season standings.
2015-16 Season Review
The Titans went 11-7 in Horizon League play to finish fourth under first-year head coach
Bernard Scott. Detroit Mercy went 15-15 overall, which included a 7-2 mark in league games away from Calihan Hall.
Detroit Mercy led the Horizon League in conference games in both field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage and didn't drop consecutive games during the Horizon League season, sweeping series with Milwaukee, Valparaiso and Cleveland State.
Three's Company
The Titans set a school record with 234, 3-pointers last season and have three players who are in the top 11 in career triples made entering 2016-17.
Nicole Urbanick (132 triples),
Rosanna Reynolds (121) and
Haleigh Ristovski (119) all surpassed 100 3-pointers made last year, having combined for 154 treys last year.
The trio have combined for 20 triples already in 2016-17 as the Titans have 25 3-pointers after three games.
Up Next
The Titans travel to California later this week, playing in the Cal State Northridge Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26. Detroit Mercy opens the tournament up with Cal State Northridge, before playing either Delaware or Michigan State the following day.
