Titan Softball Bolsters Roster With Seven Additions

DETROIT (11/22/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball program and head coach John Conway announced the 2017 signing class on Tuesday afternoon, with players on their way to the Motor City from different parts of the continent, with local players from Michigan and others from Ontario to Arizona. 
 
The Titans will welcome seven players overall to the squad for the 2017-18 academic year, including two that could be with the team as early as this Spring in Madison Scarsella (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and Cami Sinclair (Petrolla, Ont./Lambton Central Collegiate and Vocational Institute). Rounding out the class are Regan Glenn (Mohave Valley, Ariz./River Valley), Alyssa Lang (Carleton, Mich./Airport), Alyssa Puskaric (Tecumseh, Ont./Tecumseh Vista Academy), Emma St. John (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggett) and Allyson Zeigler (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville).
 
"As a whole, this class is really athletic and has the potential to be very special," said Coach Conway. "They're all true freshman, but I am really excited because I expect them to be impact players for our program. There is a good combination of speed, power and strong pitching that our coaching staff is very excited to begin working with."

Madison Scarsella 16339
Middle Infielder  I  Clarkston, Mich.  I  Clarkston
High School: Three-time letter winner in softball… Earned Second Team All-State honors as a freshman before missing time with injury as a sophomore… Returned junior year and was named an All-District selection… Two-time captain… Played club ball with Finesse 18U Dreher and Batbusters 18&U Vitale… Will graduate early and enroll in college courses… Member of the Philosophy Club and S.A.D.D…
Personal: Daughter of Nicole and Brien Scarsella… Has one sibling, Tyler… Will major in Nursing or Biology.
 
Coach Conway says: "Maddy is an all-out type of player who gives 100% all the time. She has the ability to play anywhere on the field and will be an immediate leader."




 
 
Cami Sinclair 16340
Pitcher  I  Oil City, Ontario, Canada  I  Lambton Central CVI
High School: Was also an ice hockey and track and field athlete in addition to softball… Has played for Team Ontario the last two seasons… Also played club ball with the Enniskillen Express, Brantford Bobcats and Guelph Gators… Won the 2015 Provincal Championship with the Bobcats in 2015 and was a Provincal Silver Medalist in 2016 with the Gators… Member of the Student Outreach to Seniors Club.
Personal: Daughter of Tom and Nancy Sinclair… Has two siblings, Kaitlyn and Courtney, who also play collegiate softball at Spring Arbor and California (Pa.), respectively… Will major in Social Work.
 
Coach Conway says: "Cami is a left-handed pitcher with solid control. She can move the ball up and down and offensively, she has a solid bat with above average speed."



 
 
Regan Glenn 16336

High School: Three-time letter winner in softball with the Dust Devils… Three-time First Team All-Section (2014-16)… Two-time Second Team All-State (2015-16)… Three-time Section Champion (2014-16)… Twice named Team MVP (2015-16)… Named Section Player of the Year in 2015… Earned First Team Academic All-State in 2014… Across high school career, went 47-24 from the circle with a 1.41 ERA, including four no-hitters and a perfect game… Held opponents to a .185 batting average while striking out 570... Played club ball with the AZ Bombers 18 Gold, Firecrackers Peek and Insanity… Member of the 2016 TCS Arizona State Championship team, as well as the 2016 TCS 18 Gold World Series Championship squad… Also a four-time ASA Arizona State Champ (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014)… Member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Lettermen's Club.
Personal: Daughter of John and Jenny Glenn… Has two siblings, Ryann and Rusti… Will major in business.
 
Coach Conway says: "I expect Regan to be a major competitor in the circle. She has superior command of all of her pitches and has a very strong knowledge of the game."
 

Alyssa Lang 16337
Utility  I  Carleton, Mich.  I  Airport
High School: Multi-sport athlete with letters in softball and basketball, while also playing volleyball… Three-time All-Huron League, All-District, All-Region and All-State selection (2014-16)… Three-time District Champion in softball, while also winning regionals as a sophomore… As a freshman, hit .395 with 50 runs scored and 35 RBI… Sophomore year, hit .472 with 58 runs and 42 RBI… As a junior, hit .436 with 33 runs and 33 RBI… Played club ball with Compuware Fastpitch Softball and Turnin' 2… Named Second Team All-Huron League as a sophomore and First Team All-Huron League and All-Region as a junior in basketball… Member of the National Honor Society, DECA, Interact Club and was also the Class Treasurer.
Personal: Daughter of Heidi and Will Lang… Has one sibling, Addison… Will study to become a Physician Assistant.
 
Coach Conway says: "Alyssa is an all-around utility player who can catch and play in the infield. She has a strong bat and arm with a strong softball IQ."

 
 
Alyssa Puskaric 16338
Catcher  I  Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada  I  Tecumseh Vista Academy
High School: In addition to softball, also competed in volleyball, basketball, track and field and badminton… Played club ball with the Windsor Wildcats (2009-12), the Michigan Pride (2013-15) and Turnin' 2 (2015-16)… Wecssaa Volleyball Champion in 2014… Placed 7th in 2014 and 2015 at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships… Named to the Honor Roll every year.
Personal: Daughter of Allen and Tammy Puskaric… Has one sibling, Josh… Will major in Nursing.
 
Coach Conway says: "Alyssa is very solid behind the plate with a strong arm and bat. I expect her to be a leader on the field."




 
 
Emma St. John 16341
Pitcher/Middle Inf.  I  Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.  I  University Liggett
High School: Multi-sport athlete with multiple letters in softball, ice hockey and field hockey… Three-time Scholar Athlete Award recipient… From 2014-16, went 67-16 (.807) with a 1.02 ERA across 503 innings pitched, with 836 strikeouts and a 0.771 WHIP… Has racked up 15 no hitters and five perfect games heading into senior year… Three-time All-Region, All-District, First Team All-League, Team MVP and MIAC Scholar Athlete honoree (2014-16)… In 2016, named MIAC MVP and All-State First Team Division 3… Tallied a 0.00 ERA in conference play during junior campaign… In 2015, named All-State First Team Division 1 and MAC Blue Division MVP… As a freshman in 2014, named the Rookie of the Year and earned the MAC Sportsmanship Award and was named to the MAC All-Academic Team… Threw a perfect game as a freshman while striking out all 18 batters faced… Played club ball for Turnin' 2.
Personal: Daughter of Robert and Heather… Has one sibling, Addison… Will major in Nursing.
 
Coach Conway says: "Emma is a fierce competitor and complete player who has great control of her pitches, can hit and is strong up the middle."
 
 
Allyson Zeigler 16342
Utility  I  Romeoville, Ill.  I  Romeoville
High School: Four-time letter winner in softball with the Spartans… Named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2015… Set a school record with a .523 batting average as a sophomore… Played club ball for the Sparks, winning the 2015 PGF National Championships for 16U Platinum… Member of Best Buddies, Student Council and the Yearbook Committee.
Personal: Daughter of Christy and Troy Zeigler… Has one sibling, Tevon… Will major in Special Education.
 
Coach Conway says: "Ally is an all-around athlete who gives 100% on the field. She has a strong bat, arm and solid speed."
