NOTRE DAME, Ind. (12/2/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team kicked off the 2016-17 indoor season Friday night at Notre Dame's Blue and Gold Invite.
The non-scored meet gave the Titans some early work to prepare for the bulk of the upcoming season, with many performances to highlight the meet.
Freshman
Brynne Gustafson debuted in weight throw with a toss of 10.15 meters (33'3"), while senior
Ashley Bayles recorded a toss of 13.83 meters for ninth place.
Bayles took fifth in the shot put, clearing 12.60 meters on the first attempt. Gustafson debuted with a throw of 11.10 meters in the event.
Kyri Jackson debuted in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.80, the sixth-best mark in program history.
Jayona Dent checked in at 7.95, while
Lynda Brundige debuted with a time of 8.04 in the event. Jackson would take sixth in the finals with a time of 8.05.
Brundige cleared 17'11" (5.46 meters) in the long jump, the sixth-highest mark in the Titan record book and fourth-best in competition. Later, Brundige would set the eighth-best program mark with a triple jump of 36'0" (10.95 meters), good for fifth in the event.
Paige Anderson finished 10
th in the long jump with a clearance of 4.87 meters, followed by
Taylor Balcerzak at 4.65 meters and Mosley at 4.36 meters.
Elizabeth Mullen took third in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:39.91, just off her personal record.
In the 400-meter run, sophomore
Kye Dozier took third in 58.52, followed by
Natalie Vizard in fifth at 58.94.
Samantha Zakalowski took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.07.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Dent, Vizard, Zakalowski and Dozier clocked in at 3:56.73 for third place, becoming the first Titan relay squad to post a time under four minutes in December action.
Mosley led the way for the Titans in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 11
th while matching a PR with a time of 9.82, followed by Anderson in 10.24.
The Titans will take a bit of a break before returning to action in 2017 on January 14 at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
