YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/28/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Horizon League Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon with a sixth-place finish from WATTS in Youngstown, Ohio.
The Titans finished in sixth-place after tallying 51 total points, a 34-point improvement from day one. Youngstown State ran away with the title after tallying 197 points. Milwaukee finished second with 132 points, followed by Oakland in third with 126.
In the 400-meter dash, junior
Khalil Parris ran at a quick 48.26 pace, but settled for second place. He earned eight points with the runner-up performance. Freshman
Carlton Sims finished in fourth with a time of 48.96.
Sophomore
Ben Kendell led for much of the way in the 3,000-meter run, but settled for fourth place after crossing the line in 8:25.22.
Junior
Ilia Panev finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 for four points.
Freshman
Anton Webster earned four points in the 800-meter run after clocking in at 1:56.41, good for fifth place in the event.
Freshman
Jarod Hoekstra returned to action in the heptathlon and closed the gap with a personal record 2:56.70 in the 1,000-meter run, but finished just out of the scoring in ninth with 3,436 total points.
Freshman
Nick Scalzi led Detroit in the shot put, clearing 14.42 meters. Senior
Jake Millyard followed with a throw of 13.02 meters.
Senior
Ryan Hofsess led the Titans in the mile, followed by freshman
Colin Hooker and sophomore
Charlie Felton. Hofsess crossed the line in 4:22.48, while Hooker finished in a personal record 4:23.33 and Felton at 4:33.16.
The Titans wrapped up the day with a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Sims,
Brandon Wilks, Webster and Parris topped the Detroit indoor record in 3:15.02.
Detroit takes a break before returning to action in the outdoor season April 1 at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
