DETROIT (6/10/2016) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse junior
Ben Gjokaj (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central) had a dominating season in the conference at the faceoff X as he ended up leading the MAAC in faceoff winning percentage with the final NCAA stats released today.
Gjokaj led the league and was 24th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage with a career-high and school record 56.6 percent (74-of-133), which included an astounding 68-of-108 (62.9%) mark in MAAC play.
He started the season slowly, but turned it around once league time came with great performances such as a 12-of-16 performance at Manhattan, 15-of-22 versus Quinnipiac and 12-of-18 with a career-best seven ground balls against Marist.
Junior
Jason Weber (Whitby, Ont. / Christ School (N.C.) finished 18th in the country in save percentage (54.1%) as well as saves per game (11.0), third and fourth in the MAAC respectively.
As a team, Detroit was 14th in the nation with 11.83 saves per game.
In the MAAC, sophomore
Mark Anstead (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga) was fourth handing out 1.25 assists per contest. Senior
Paul Bitetti (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) ended fourth posting 1.42 caused turnovers per game, while senior
Andy Hebden (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and sophomore
Alec Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Catholic Central) tied for third with six man-up goals apiece.
The Titans were also second in man-up offense (38.5%), third in caused turnovers (6.75) and fourth in ground balls (24.92).
