INDIANAPOLIS (1/27/2017) -- Always known for academic excellence, the University of Detroit Mercy saw 76 student-athletes make the grade to get recognized on the Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll, announced the conference office.

Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
Â
1) Participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).

The 76 selections put the Titans among the top half of the conference in sports that Detroit Mercy offers in the league.

Detroit Mercy men's soccer led all HL programs with 13 selections, while women's golf was tied for the top spot with six student-athletes on the honor roll. Both women's soccer (15) and men's golf (5) were third in their respective sports among league peers.

In total, 984 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinctions for the fall of 2016 semester with all ten members and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports represented.

Women's soccer has the most student-athletes represented for the fourth straight semester with 139 making the cut. Following close behind is women's track & field/ cross country with 134 honorees. Topping the list for male sports is track & field/ cross country with 98 student-athletes recognized.

Women's swimming and Diving received 82 spots while the men notched 61 honorees. Softball and volleyball both claimed 69 honor roll accolades while men's soccer followed closely behind with 68 members. Baseball garnered 65 slots, women's basketball improved with 49 recipients and women's tennis placed 39. Women's golf (35), men's golf (31), men's tennis (26) and men's basketball (19) rounded out the list.
