DETROIT (10/25/17) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's cross country teams each placed one harrier on the Horizon League All-Academic Teams, released by the conference office on Wednesday.
Representing the women's team was
Kayla Hughes, while it was
Greg Ingle for the men's team.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
Hughes, a sophomore from Canton, Michigan, is studying engineering while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. She has steadily improved throughout the year, posting a personal record this season of 20:08 in the 5k at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Ingle, a senior from Mason, Michigan, is studying civil engineering and has a sparkling 3.83 GPA. Ingle spent his first two years of eligibility running at Lansing Community College before transferring to Detroit Mercy and continuing his running career with the Titans. Ingle has competed in five races in his senior season for the Titans, with his best time being 27:05 at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Both Titan harriers will be racing in the Horizon League Championship this Saturday, Oct. 28, held at Metro Series rival, Oakland. The event will begin at 11 a.m.
