YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/4/17) – Junior
Ben Kendell broke his own record in the 3,000m run and seven Titans set personal records at the Youngstown State University National Invitational over the weekend.
The two-day meet, which began on Friday and wrapped up Saturday afternoon, featured 17 teams competing from the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
COACH MURRAY SAYS
"We had a good meet as we build up to Horizon League Championships later this month. We use this as a test and we will now work on how to prepare for the conference championships using these results. We continue to make strides, but have some work to do."
HIGHLIGHT OF THE MEET
- Kendell lowered his all-time Detroit Mercy record in the 3,000m to 8:20.99 on his way to a silver medal performance.
- Carlton Sims posted a pair of top-10s in the 200m and the 400m.
- Zach Arnold placed fifth in his 500m debut.
- Anton Webster posted a top-five finish in the 800m.
- Charlie Felton finished 11th with a PR of 8:38.51, the 10th fastest all-time Titan.
- All five Titans in the 3000m posted PRs in the event (Kendell, Felton, Fraeyman, McCann, Ingle).
- The DMR team of Felton, Sims, Webster and Kendell took gold and posted the fourth-fastest DMR time in program history.
- Scalzi took eighth in the shot put and Whitting finished sixth in the heptathlon.
