San Diego Classic Schedule
DETROIT (3/2/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team returns to action this week at the San Diego Classic. The Titans hit the road and head to California for nine games in six days from March 3-8.
Detroit Mercy will face stiff competition during the west coast swing with BYU, San Diego, UC Davis, San Jose State, Oregon State, UC Riverside and San Diego State on the docket.
The tournament is hosted by San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. All games will be held at SDSU Softball Stadium and the USD Softball Complex.

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy enters the weekend at 3-7 overall and is coming off a 1-4 road trip at the Madeira Beach Invitational last week in Florida. Five of the Titans' seven losses have been by two runs or less, including four defeats by a single run.
Offensively, the Titans are hitting .270 as a team and scoring 3.6 runs per game, with 24 steals already on the season. The pitching staff owns a 3.73 cumulative ERA with the defensive unit sporting a .952 fielding percentage.

Sophomore
Jordan Manno leads the team with 11 hits and six runs scored while hitting .314 from the plate. Junior
Savvy Ferstle is hitting .303 with a team-best two homers and seven RBI, while senior
Grace Schmeiser leads the squad with a .409 batting average. Sophomore

Freshman
Liz Murphy leads the team with a 1.98 ERA and 3-3 record. The rookie has four complete games in five starts and has allowed just 12 earned runs in 42.1 innings pitched. Sophomore
Ashley Mauser has bounced back from a rocky opener to throw well. Mauser has a 4.98 ERA and team-best 11 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched. Freshmen

Skylar Fairchild and
Ellie Boteler have all appeared in relief for the Titans.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
BYU Cougars
BYU is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and enters the weekend at 7-5 overall. Of the Cougars' five losses, four have come to ranked opponents and three of those have been at the hands of top-10 teams. Lexi Tarrow leads the offense with a .462 batting average, six runs scored and seven RBI. McKenna Bull leads the pitching staff with a 6-1 record and 3.05 ERA. Bull has struck out 35 in 41.1 innings while throwing four complete games and two shutouts.
San Diego Toreros
USD is 3-5 entering the tournament, but has won three of their last four. Taylor Spence leads the offense with a .423 batting average (11-for-26) and team-high seven runs scored. Hannah Gillialand is hitting .375 and leads the squad with seven RBI. Megan Sabbatini leads the pitching staff with a 5.64 ERA and 3-4 record across seven starts.
UC Davis Aggies
The Aggies are 6-8 overall entering the weekend. After winning three of their first five, UC Davis lost five in a row before snapping the streak with a 5-2 win over Sacramento State in their most recent outing. Brianna Warner leads the squad with a .383 batting average (18-for-47) and adds a team-best eight runs scored. From the circle, Katie Kibby leads the team with a 4-2 record and 2.31 ERA across seven starts and 42.1 innings pitched.
San Jose State Spartans
The Spartans head south to San Diego with an 8-7 record. San Jose State has won three of the last four heading to the weekend. Casey Watt highlights the offense with a .313 batting average and team-high seven RBI from the plate. In the circle, Katelyn Linford is 4-1 with a 3.82 ERA across 33 innings pitched.
Oregon State Beavers
The Beavers are receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and enter the tournament with an 8-5 record. Oregon State won its first five games of the season and six of the first seven, but has gone 2-5 since that stretch. Shelby Weeks leads the offense with a blistering .513 batting average (20-for-39) while scoring 13 runs. Taylor Cotton leads the team with a 1.72 ERA and 3-1 record, while Nerissa Eason is 5-4 with a 4.47 ERA.
UC Riverside Highlanders
The Highlanders are 5-7 overall and 4-1 at home. After dropping five straight games, UC Riverside has won four of its last five. Jenae Lockwood leads the offense with a .364 batting average (8-for-22), five runs and four extra-base hits. From the circle, Haley Marschall is 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA and Taylor Misfeldt is 2-0 with a 6.27 ERA.
San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs are receiving votes in the latest USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and enter the weekend at 8-5 overall. After beginning the season 1-3, SDSU has gone 7-2 with its losses coming to No. 8 Washington and No. 1 Florida State. The Aztecs have won three straight with four players hitting over .400. Jenavee Peres is hitting .422 (19-for-45) with 13 runs scored, 16 RBI and two long balls. Three pitchers have logged 20+ innings, with Marissa Moreno leading the way at 4-1 and a 2.66 ERA.

Following the trip to California, Detroit Mercy heads back to the Midwest and returns to the field at the Miami (OH) Invitational on March 18-19.
