Game Recap: Softball |

No. 6 Titans Battle but Came Up Short to No. 2 Northern Kentucky and No. 3 Robert Morris in 2026 #HLSB Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (5-7-26) - Sophomore Natalie Babcock went 2-for-2 and picked the perfect time to connect on her first two home runs of the season, while sophomore Abby Klaft went 2-for-3 as No. 6 seed Detroit Mercy battled hard to the end but came up short with a pair of 3-2 setbacks to No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky and No. 3 seed Robert Morris to conclude the 2026 season on the second day of action at the #HLSB Championship on Thursday at Covelli Sports Complex.

Sophomore Wendy Ketola also went 1-for-3, while freshman Savannah Schultz went the distance in the circle, going 6.0 innings with a strikeout against the Norse.

Junior Jada Davis went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, while sophomore Abby Klaft and junior Claire Borg each hit 1-for-3 against RMU. Freshman Hannah Schlachter had a walk and run scored along with Babcock.

Freshman Jaycee Reams delivered her best outing of the season, posting her first career complete game, tossing 6.0 innings while holding the Colonials (the HL's best hitting team) to just two runs.

No. 2 NKU Recap:
• NKU added two solo home runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead.
• Klaft's solo homer pulled UDM within a run, 2-1, in the top of the third inning.
• The Norse got an RBI single in the top of the fifth to move back ahead by two runs at 3-1.
• Babcock then blasted her second home run deep over the left field wall, pulling UDM back within a run, 3-2.
• In the top of the sixth, Ketola hit a double to left center field and tried to stretch it into a triple, sliding into third base under the tag and was called safe. However, after an official review, the call was reversed, and she was called out. Kalft singled up the middle, which would have tied the game, but the Titans left her stranded to end the inning.
• NKU retired the Titans in the seventh to advance.

No. 3 RMU Recap:
• Klaft got the Titans' first hit in the second inning but couldn't capitalize as she was doubled off on a line-out to first base.
• The Colonials got a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
• In the top of the fifth, Schachter walked and advanced to second as Babcock reached on an error. Borg grounded to second base to move the runners over to second and third.
• Davis ripped a double down the left field line to plate both runners, tying the game at 2-2.
• After Davis' double, the Titans had a runner thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice, followed by a strikeout to end the inning, stranding a runner on third base.
• UDM got out of the bottom of the fifth inning with a fielder's choice out at second base. The throw at second base got past Klaft at first base, but she was able to recover and gun down the runner at the plate to end the inning.
• Bobby Mo got a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
• Borg reached on a single and advanced to second on an error to lead off the seventh inning. She then moved to third base off a wild pitch, but was left stranded to end the game.
