DETROIT (5/22/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team has inked three more student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Titans with all three signing during the recent spring signing period.
The student-athletes set to join head coach
Laurie Merian's program are
Taylor Cantelon (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / West Bloomfield HS),
Meggie Kurth (Loveland, Colo. / Fossil Ridge HS) and
Leah Tardiff (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem HS).
Cantelon and Tardiff are local products from nearby West Bloomfield and Salem High Schools, respectively, while Kurth hails from Colorado.
The signing of three more players brings the total for eight in the 2016-17 signing class, Merian's first signing class at the helm of the program. All eight student-athletes are set to join the Titans next fall. The eight signees represent five different states -- Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio.
Taylor Cantelon // Midfield
Bloomfield Hills, Mich. // West Bloomfield High School
Bio: A four-year letter-winner for the Lakers in lacrosse for coach Darrell Grandberry ... Has also played hockey for 10 years ... Earned Newcomer of the Year award in 2014, Midfielder Player Award in 2015 and both Team MVP as well as Offensive MVP in 2016 ... Team captain ... Played club lacrosse with the Detroit Coyotes in 2016.
Coach Merian: "We are very excited for the late addition of Taylor. She has great speed which is going to help us in transition and she has been coached by coach Megan (Callahan) previously so she will know what is expected of her."

Meggie Kurth // Defender
Loveland, Colo. // Fossil Ridge High School
Bio: A four-year letter-winner while at Fossil Ridge High School ... Played high school lacrosse at the only two schools in Northern Colorado with girls lacrosse, Thompson Valley (three years) and Rocky Mountain High School (one year) for coaches Brian Ackman, Misty Huss and Pam Kramer ... Team captain in both 2016 & 2017 ... Played in the Vail Lacrosse Shootout on Team Colorado U19 in both June 2014 & 2015 ... Played in 42 games, totaling 24 goals and 38 ground balls ... Played club lacrosse with Denver Summit and 3D Lacrosse ... Plans to major in Civil Engineering.
Coach Merian: "Meggie is one of our two true defenders we are bringing in for out 2017 recruiting class. She does a good job of reading her attackers and forcing them where she wants them. She will have a lot of upperclassmen to look up to which is going to help her bring her game to the next level."

Leah Tardiff // Midfield
Plymouth, Mich. // Salem High School
Bio: Lettered four years in lacrosse and one year in swimming and diving for the Rocks and coaches Dave Medley & Nicole Jacobs ... All-State Honorable Mention, First Team All-Conference, Scholar Athlete and All-Park Team in sophomore and junior seasons ... Team MVP after sophomore season ... Two-time captain ... Named to Brine All-American Team for Michigan after junior year ... Combined totals from sophomore and junior seasons were 104 goals and 101 ground balls in 31 games ... Played club lacrosse with WWLC (2012-13), Team Total (2014-15) and Detroit Lacrosse (2016-17) ... President of Student Organization of Salem Athletics, member of National Honor Society and Salem Student Congress Vice President ... Her sister, Emma Tardiff, played soccer at Kalamazoo College ... Teammate of fellow incoming Titan, goalkeeper Maddie Johnson ... Plans to major in Pre-Law.
Coach Merian: "Leah is going to be a strong addition for us in the midfield. She sees the field very well, and her knowledge of the game will help her transition from high school to college."
