SOUTH BEND, Ind. (9/15/2017) -- Senior
Sydnie Fetherolf had one of the best runs in school history at Notre Dame as the University of Detroit Mery women's cross country team competed in the 38th Annual National Catholic Championships on Friday.
The 5k race was held at the Burke Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame with Detroit Mercy tallying 262 points for ninth.
Fetherolf took 35 seconds off her career 5k time at Notre Dame placing 25th overall in 18:27. It was the seventh-best time in school history at the annual event.
Freshman
Madison Burnham also broke the 20-minute mark for the Titans coming in at a time of 19:57, setting her up for a promising future on the course.
The Titans will have a week off before competing in the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 30.

Fetherolf lead the way, followed closely behind by first-year runner
Madison Burnham.
Freshman
Aliza Hengesbach finished with a time of 20:12, followed by junior
Veronica Towianski at 20:55.
The senior leadership then followed, as
Sydney Shaw and
Taylor Smith crossed the line at 21:29 and 22:05, respectively.
Sophomore
Kayla Hughes completed the race in a time of 22:27.
Besides the team competing, Director of Track and Field & Cross Country
Guy Murray '89 has been to 36 of the 38 National Catholic Championships, missing the event in 1989 and 1994. He was the Titans' top runner in 1988 with a 68th-place effort in 27:00.
