DETROIT (2/28/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will host the 4th Annual Midwest Classic this weekend, March 2-4, as the Titans welcome Bellarmine, and nationally-ranked Marquette and Ohio State to Wisner Stadium in Pontiac.
Wisner Stadium is located on 441 Cesar E Chavez Ave, Pontiac, Michigan, 48342.
Tickets to the event cost $20 each, and the ticket is good for all four games. Anyone who purchases a ticket will receive a wrist band and you must hold onto that for re-entry into the field.

Detroit Mercy will open the event with Bellarmine on Friday at 1 p.m. and will also face No. 4/6 Ohio State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

HOME SWEET HOME
- The Titans started the season with three-straight road games, but will enjoy some home cooking with just three more road trips the rest of the season, and all of those are in conference play at Monmouth, Canisius and Manhattan.
AGAINST THE BIG TEN
- Detroit Mercy is 2-11 all-time against current members of the Big Ten, including 1-7 against Ohio State, 1-3 versus Michigan and 0-1 against Maryland.
AGAINST THE SOCON
- The Titans are 14-20 all-time against current teams from the Southern Conference, including 4-1 versus VMI, 5-2 against Mercer, 2-3 against Jacksonville, 2-7 against Bellarmine and 0-4 versus Air Force.
- Detroit Mercy will play four SoCon opponents on the year in Bellarmine, Mercer, Jacksonville and Air Force.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BELLARMINE
- The Titans are 2-7 all-time against Bellarmine, but have won two of the last three.
- Detroit Mercy is 0-3 at home against the Knights and the last three meetings have all come in the Midwest Classic.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. OHIO STATE
- Detroit Mercy is 1-7 all-time against Ohio State, with the one win coming at home, 9-8, at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in 2015.
- The Titans are 0-3 all-time when the Buckeyes are ranked.
ALL-TIME VS. RANKED TEAMS
- The Titans are 0-15 all-time against nationally-ranked teams, including 0-7 all-time versus top-10 teams.
JESUIT PRIDE
- Detroit Mercy is one of just eight Jesuit schools playing Division I lacrosse.
- The others are MAAC-rival Canisius, Fairfield, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Loyola (Md.), Marquette and St. Joseph's.
- The Titans have actually played four of the other seven Jesuit institutions in Canisius (5-4), Marquette (0-6), Georgetown (0-1) and Saint Joseph's (0-1).
NO ROOKIE JITTERS
- Redshirt freshman Logan Shamblin showed no signs of being nervous as he earned the start in net at No. 6 Notre Dame.
- He finished with 11 saves - five in the third period alone - and picked up three ground balls in the tough 10-7 setback.
- He picked up his first win at Mercer allowing just seven goals - one in the second half - and making 10 saves in the game.
VANTASTIC
- Sophomore transfer Matthew Vangalen had a great start to his Titan career challenging the school record for points in a single season last year, and he started 2018 with a bang.
- Vangalen tallied a team-high five points on two goals and three assists at Notre Dame and also caused a pair of turnovers. He added two goals at Jacksonville and an assist at Mercer.
- He was selected All-MAAC Second Team in 2017 after posting 47 points – third in school history – 26 goals – seventh in school history – and 21 assists – tied for second in Titan record books.
- He also ranked fourth in the MAAC with 1.31 assists per game, fifth with 2.94 points per game and sixth with 1.63 points per game
- Vangalen was not just a shooter looking for points as he picked his spots recording a .648 shots on goal percentage.
HAYES EARNS PRESEASON HONOR
- Senior Charlie Hayes has started the season playing like an All-American as he already has eight caused turnovers - tied for the team lead - and a team-best 14 ground balls to go with two goals and an assist.
- He posted three ground balls, a caused turnover and a goal at Notre Dame, while playing some great defense.
- He had a goal and an assist at Mercer, four ground ball and four caused turnovers at Jacksonville and two caused turnovers with four GB's versus Marquette.
ERSKINE ARRIVES
- Freshman Brett Erskine made a name for himself and the nation took notice of his play.
- At Mercer, he recorded his first collegiate points on two goals and an assist and all three came in dramatic fashion, earning him the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week.
- His assist came on the Titans' sixth goal in a comeback victory at Mercer, while his first goal tied the game at 7-7 with just 19 seconds left.
- Erskine's final marker was the game-winner in overtime.
- He has now tallied two goals and an assist in each of the last three games and leads the team with six goals and nine points.
- Also, he has taken just 11 shots and all have been on goal.
KAMISH CONNECTION
- Freshman Brennan Kamish has had a strong start to his collegiate career scoring a goal in each of his first three games.
- He tallied his first career marker at #6/6 Notre Dame. He posted two at Mercer and found the back of the net at Jacksonville.
MENDELL NOT A ROOKIE ANYMORE
- Sophomore Seth Mendell quickly went from a rookie last season to one of the top players on the team.
- He was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team after starting all 16 games at attack and tied for second on the team with 26 points and eight assists and tied for third scoring 18 goals
- Mendell led all MAAC freshmen in goals and was second in points
- He recorded his first collegiate hat trick in a big way as he exploded for six goals versus Bellarmine, tied for first in the MAAC and the second most in school history, and it was also tied for the fourth most goals by anyone in Division I on the season
- Mendell started the year with a goal and an assist and two ground balls at nationally-ranked Notre Dame and also found the back of the net at Mercer.
LOOKING FOR MORE
- Senior Alec Gilhooly will look for another career season as he set career highs in almost every statistical category as a junior, and he just had a pair of markers against Marquette.
- Gilhooly finished second on the team with 19 goals, tied for second with 26 points and tied for third handing out seven assists.
- He also tied for the team and conference lead with seven man-up goals, which was also tied for sixth in the nation.
- In the MAAC Championship semifinals against eventual conference champion Monmouth, he recorded a career-high four goals.
- In his career, he has 34 goals and 16 assists for 50 points.
BIRNEY BOMBS
- Senior Sean Birney is back at midfield after finishing fifth on the team with a career-high 15 goals and 21 points last season.
- He also handed out six assists, sixth on the squad, and tied for the team and conference lead with seven man-up goals, which was also tied for sixth in the nation.
- In his career, he has 30 goals and 50 points.
CANADIAN POWER
- Senior Lucas Ducharme and junior Patrick Walsh each have three goals on the season.
- When you add in junior Matthew Vangalen's four goals and four assists, freshman Brett Erskine's six goals and three assists and senior Marcus Butters' assist, Canadians have accounted for 16 goals, eight assists and 24 points.
- As a team, the Titans have 29 goals, 18 assists and 47 points.
LEAVE IT TO AKINS
- Sophomore long-stick midfielder and defender Alex Akins had a strong start to his second season posting a pair of caused turnovers and limiting Notre Dame attackers in the season opener.
- He has now caused a turnover in every game on the year and is tied for the team lead with eight.
- Akins recorded a career-high three caused turnovers and seven ground balls at Mercer.
- As a freshman, he earned All-MAAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team recognition after playing in all 16 games with 12 starts and was third on the team with 12 caused turnovers while picking up 15 ground balls.
DON'T MESS WITH TEX
- Senior Will Kane had two ground balls in the season opener at Notre Dame and tied his career high with three caused turnovers at Jacksonville.
- He played in all 16 games with 15 starts last season and was second on the Team with a career-high 17 caused turnovers and sixth racking up a career-best 22 ground balls.
- He has played in 30 career games and has tallied 27 caused turnovers - ninth in school history - and 51 ground balls.
PAT IN THE TOP 10
- Senior LSM Pat Masterson had registered a caused turnover in each of the first four games as well as three ground balls at #6/6 Notre Dame.
- He is now top 10 in school history in both categories as he is tied for seventh with 29 caused turnovers and 10th with 77 GB's.
