DETROIT (9/14/18) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior harrier
Ben Kendell became the first male Titan in history to win the National Catholic Championships on Friday evening.
Kendell won the 39th edition of the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame with a time of 24:33.
Crossing the line second for the red, white and blue and setting a personal record along the way was junior
James McCann, with a mark of 25:59.
Sophomore
Thomas Mueller finished in 27:24 and broke the top 90 with that finish, a 30-second improvement from last season's finish. Also cracking the top 100 was junior
Adam Fraeyman, with a mark of 27:29.
In his first career National Catholic Championship,
Ryan Schwab finished in 28:26. Fellow freshman
Mich Greeley crossed in 30:00 flat in his debut in South Bend, Ind.
Junior
Scott Smith placed 166 with a mark of 29:09 and
Dash Dobar crossed in 33:09.
The red, white and blue finished ninth as a team with a score of 206.
