Titans Put 86 on 2018 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (1/18/2019) -- Eighty-six University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes received 2018 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll accolades after the honors were released by the Horizon League office Friday.

The Titans led the Horizon League in honorees in several of the sports, including having a league-high 17 of the 100 recipients in men's soccer. All eight Titan women's golfers made the fall honor roll to lead the Horizon League in the sport among the 41 recipients. The Titan women's tennis team had a league-best six honorees of the 36 in the Horizon League and Detroit Mercy softball led the way in their sport with 13 of the 78 honorees in the conference.

Women's soccer and women's track and field each had 14 recipients, while men's cross country and track and field had seven members earn the distinction and men's golf put four student-athletes on the fall academic honor roll.

Across the Horizon League, 1,074 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinctions for the fall of 2018 semester with all 10 members and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports represented. Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
  1. Participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
  2. Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
  3. A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
Milwaukee topped the list with 133 student-athletes on the academic honor roll. Oakland (132), IUPUI (123), Northern Kentucky (111), Green Bay (105) and Youngstown State (101) reached triple digits in student-athletes being recognized. Sports with the most representation were women's track and field/cross country with 153 student-athletes while women's soccer had 130 members. Men's soccer was the third highest group with 100 honorees.

Detroit Mercy with 86 honorees was just behind Wright State (93), UIC (93) and Cleveland State (97), despite not having baseball, volleyball and men's and women's swimming and diving.
