Lexie Kinmond (Peterborough, Ont.) was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after her performance in a pair of contests last week. It's the second-straight SoCon offensive weekly honor for the Titans to open the 2019 season. It's also Kinmond's first career conference weekly accolade.
Kinmond, a two-time First Team All-Conference attacker, led the Titans in points in both games last week, tallying a Titan season-best six points in Detroit Mercy's 17-13 victory over Butler on Tuesday in the home opener. The senior co-captain then notched three more points in Sunday's road setback at Cincinnati, recording nine points, eight ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls total during the week.
In Detroit Mercy's victory over Butler on Tuesday, Kinmond had two goals and four assists, adding four ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Bulldogs. Against the Bearcats on Sunday, Kinmond put all five shots on goal and scored two goals, adding one assist. She also had four ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover, turning it over just once.
On the season, Kinmond has a team-best 15 points on the strength of eight goals and seven assists, while also tallying 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers across four games so far in 2019. She has two goals in all four games this season and has notched three points or more in every contest this year. In her Titan career, she has 121 goals and 97 assists for 218 points, which is third in Titan history. She already holds the school record in assists and is just three away from becoming the first Detroit Mercy player to reach the 100-assist milestone.
Detroit Mercy returns to the road this weekend, visiting Duquesne for a non-conference contest on Sunday, March 2 against the Dukes. It's the fourth game out of five on the road to open the 2019 season. The Titans' next home game is set for Wednesday, March 13 against American University from Titan Field.
