DETROIT (3/18/19) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior harrier
Ben Kendell was named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I All-Academic team.
There were 267 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with women accounting for 58.4 percent of the total (156).
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
Kendell completed arguably the greatest cross country season in Detroit Mercy history this past Fall. His accolades are as follows:
Athletics:
- Horizon League Athlete of the Year
- Horizon League Champion
- Horizon League All-Academic Team
- 95th at NCAA Division I Championships
- Runner-Up at NCAA Great Lakes Regional
- First place finishes at Canisius Alumni Classic, National Catholic Championships and Running Fit-Detroit Mercy Titans Invitational
- Broke school record in 8k at Greater Louisville Classic (23:54)
- Broke school record in 10k at NCAA Division I Championship (30:34)
- 2x HL Runner of the Week this season (9/11, 9/18)
Academics:
- 3.903 GPA in the engineering program at Detroit Mercy
- 4x Member of HL All-Academic Team
- 4x Fall, 3x Spring Honor Roll Member
- Horizon League Fall Scholar Athlete of the Season (Co-Fall 2015, Fall 2016, Fall 2018)
