MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (4/6/2019) -- For the second time this week, University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball freshman
Antoine Davis earned another All-America status as the guard was named to the Lou Henson All-America Team.
The Lou Henson Award is given annually to the nation's best mid-major player in Division I college basketball and 35 players comprised the All-America Team, including three from the Horizon League in Davis, NKU's Drew McDonald and Wright State's Loudon Love.
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
Davis was also a finalists for the 2019 Kyle Macy award and was tabbed to the All-America Team joining a list of accolades that includes: USBWA Wayman Tisdale Award for the National Freshman Player of the Year, USBWA All-District V selection, NABC All-District Second Team nominee, Horizon League Freshman of the Year and First Team All-HL.
He ended his rookie season leading the Horizon League in scoring at 26.1 points per game, third in the nation. He was also top 10 in the country in 3-pointers per game (4.40), total 3-pointers (132), field goals (263) and total points (784).
His 784 points was a Titan and Horizon League freshman record and just one point off the school record for points in a season.
He made 132, 3-pointers on the year, eclipsing the NCAA freshman record of 122 by Stephen Curry at Davidson in 2006-07. The 132 triples were also the second most in school history and fifth most in the Horizon League record book.
During the season, he recorded 23, 20-point games as well as nine 30+ point outings, including a Titan and Horizon League freshman record 48 points against Wright State, the second most in school history and the sixth most in HL play. In that contest, he also tied a school mark nailing 10, 3-pointers.
Davis is the first Titan Lou Henson Award finalist and All-American since
Ray McCallum in 2013.
Henson, who is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four. His teams have made 19 NCAA appearances and four NIT appearances.
