YOUNGSVILLE, La. (2/23/2020) -- Junior
Alyssa Lang homered and freshman
Renee Trotman drove in a run as the University of Detroit Mercy softball team was tripped up, 5-2, to Nicholls State on Sunday in the final game of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
Junior
Regan Glenn started and went 3 1/3 innings striking out a batter before being relieved by senior
Liz Murphy, who continued her recent string of strong outing with 2 2/3 scoreless inning and two more punchouts.
Nicholls State (6-10) got on the board first with three in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second.
In the third, the Titans (0-13) put a run on the board with a leadoff home run by Lang, the second of her career.
In the fifth, sophomore
Taylor Gauthier had a two-out single and stole second, but could not score. In the sixth, freshman
Reese Ruhlman had a leadoff single, but was erased on a double play off a hot line-drive shot and sophomore
Taryn Peru had a two-out base knock. Trotman then tallied a RBI double to left to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Titans will now get ready for a long spring break trip in Florida as the red, white and blue play 10 games in the Sunshine State from Feb. 29-Mar. 8.
