DETROIT (3/7/2020) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's fencing sophomore Jaydon Alojipan capped off his impressive sophomore campaign and first year fencing in sabre with a 10th-place finish in the weapon on Saturday as the Titans hosted the 2020 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship from Calihan Hall.

Alojipan, who was seeded 14th, entering competition on Saturday, improved upon that position by four spots in ultimately placing 10th. Alojipan earned five bout wins during pool play and finished the day 5-10 overall with a -20 indicator (42 touches scored, 62 touches received).

Alojipan was competing in his first NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in his second year of fencing and first in sabre. The Titans had five fencers compete overall on Saturday, including four women's fencers who completed competition earlier in the day on Saturday.

The Titans, who hosted their first NCAA Fencing Midwest Regional Championship since 2014, are also set to serve as the hosts for the 2020 NCAA Fencing National Championships, which are slated for Thursday-Sunday, March 19-22 from the TCF Center in downtown Detroit.
