DETROIT (3/7/2020) -- Four University of Detroit Mercy women's fencers closed out the 2019-20 season Saturday morning at the 2020 NCAA Fencing Midwest Regional Championships, which were hosted by the Titans at Calihan Hall. It was the first time the Titans had hosted the regional championships since 2014.
The Titans had two fencers compete in both the foil and sabre. Senior
Savannah Lee wrapped up her Titan career by placing 17th out of 20 fencers in sabre. Sophomore sabruerÂ
Justine Hickey placed 19th for the Titans as well in the weapon. It was both of the fencers second appearance at the NCAA Regional Championship.
Lee finished 2-7 on the day overall, picking up two bout wins in the first round of pool play with an indicator of -3 (14 touches scored, 17 touches received). Hickey was 1-3 on the day and had an indicator of -3 (16 touches scored, 19 touches received) and also fell on the wrong side of two 5-4 bouts.

Danielle Spencer and
Manal Shaito placed 17th and 18th, respectively, for the Titans. Spencer capped off her fencing career in the red, white and blue making her first regional championship appearance for the Titans.
The Titans are also serving as the host institution for the 2020 NCAA Fencing Championships from Thursday-Sunday, March 19-22 at the TCF Center in downtown Detroit. The Titans are the 1972 national champions in men's fencing, with the honor being the only national title in school history.
