DETROIT (3/29/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team welcomes UIC to Detroit tomorrow, March 30, for its final home contest of the 2021 season, as the Titans will honor their seniors on Senior Day. The match is set for a 1 p.m. ET start from Titan Field and the game is slated to be streamed live on ESPN3.

Detroit Mercy (2-4-1, 2-4-1 Horizon League) is coming off a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Robert Morris on Wednesday. Junior Julie Ann Piechocki scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute for the Titans after the game was tied 1-1 through 90 minutes. UIC is 4-2 and 4-2 in Horizon League play entering Tuesday's contest and last dropped a 1-0 match to IUPUI on March 17.

The Titans will honor six seniors prior to Tuesday's match -- Kelli Doyle, Olivia Elby, Sophie Mapes, Olivia Parra, Rachel Russo and Neteya Tavernier. All are four-year student-athletes with the red, white and blue, joining the program prior to the 2017 season.

The Titans
Three Titans have scored their first collegiate goals this season and many Titans have made their collegiate debut on the pitch this season for the squad. Freshman forward Tia Jokic scored her first collegiate goal in the Titans' last game against Robert Morris, scoring in the 15th minute of the match. Freshman Alexis McNeil scored her first collegiate goal at Green Bay on March 10, scoring in the second half on a header off a corner kick from classmate Toupin, who scored her first college goal at Wright State early in the season.

Toupin has team-highs with 20 shots and 11 shots on goal and has added three points for the Titans. Junior midfielder Julie Ann Piechocki has team-highs with two goals and four points for the Titans, adding 19 shots and seven shots on goal. Both of Piechocki's goals have been game-winning goals this season.

In goal, freshman goalkeeper Marisa Silver has made 23 saves and has a 63.9% save percentage and one shutout for Detroit Mercy, starting all seven matches in 2021. She tied her career-high with six saves against Robert Morris last Wednesday.

Detroit Mercy has out-shot its opponents in five of seven games this season and holds a 111-79 advantage in total shots and 47-37 edge in shots on goal. The Titans' 27 shots against Robert Morris in their last match was the second-most by a Horizon League team this season, only trailing Cleveland State's 28 against Wright State on Feb. 10.

Head coach Steve Shelton is in his second season as leader of the Titans.

Horizon League Rankings
The Titans average 15.8 shots per game, which leads all 12 Horizon League squads. The Titans' 6.7 shots on goal per game is also third in the league rankings. Freshman forward Erica Toupin is among the league leaders in shots, ranking third in shots per game (3.3) and fourth in shots on goal per game (1.8).

Piechocki is one of six players in the Horizon League with two game-winning goals in 2021. She is ninth in the HL in shots per game (2.7). Freshman keeper Marisa Silver is seventh among HL goalkeepers in goals-against average (1.79).

Scouting UIC
The Flames opened the season 3-0 with victories coming over Oakland (1-0), Youngstown State (2-0) and Robert Morris (3-1). UIC dropped road contests at Wright State and IUPUI, falling by just one goal in each and have picked up a 2-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne in March. The Flames are 1-2 away from Chicago this season.

UIC is led offensively by senior forward Savannah Jackson, who has three goals and team-high-tying six points for the Flames. She also has team-highs with 17 shots and 10 shots on goal. Freshman forward Louise Trapp has added two goals and two assists for six points. Senior forward Keri Birkenhead has four points (one goal, two assists) and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Montague has a team-best four assists for UIC. In net, graduate GK Lena Kurz has played every minute this season and has 21 saves and an 84.0% save percentage for the Flames.

All-Time Series

UIC has won the past three games, including picking up a 1-0 victory in Detroit last season, on Oct. 12, 2019. The Titans last win over UIC came in 2016, a 2-1 overtime win on the road in Chicago.
