INDIANAPOLIS (6/1/2021) -- For the second-straight season, University of Detroit Mercy softball senior
Liz Murphy has landed a major academic honor as she was once again selected to the Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
Murphy - who graduated with a 3.77 GPA in Political Science and currently has a 4.0 in graduate school - went 2-0 this season with a 0.88 ERA in the two games she started and completed in the Titans' shortened season. She tossed 16 innings and allowing just 15 hits with 13 strikeouts.
She was First Team All-Horizon League and was the HL's Most Outstanding Player in 2019 after helping the Titans win the title with back-to-back shutouts against first-place UIC in the semifinals and championship game.
In her career, she has appeared in 123 games with 81 starts and has posted 32 wins, a 3.57 ERA with 42 complete games and nine saves in her career along with a no-hitter. She is second in school history with 344 strikeouts, sixth in wins and complete games, fourth in innings pitched (527.2) and first in saves (nine).
Murphy is also a five-time member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a four-time member of the Horizon League Fall & Spring Academic Honor Roll.
