DETROIT (8/12/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team opened the 2021 fall preseason on Thursday evening, dropping a 2-1 match with in-state foe Eastern Michigan from Titan Field.
The game was originally schedule to be played at EMU, but heavy rain moved the contest to the artificial turf of Titan Field.
A pair of Titan newcomers connected on the goal in the second half for Detroit Mercy with
Katie Sullivan centering a pass into the box from near the end line and finding freshman forward
Erica Leinweber, who beat the defender and goalkeeper to the ball and knocking it into the back of the net.
Several Titan newcomers saw their first collegiate action in the match.
Detroit Mercy is back in action in their final exhibition game on Sunday -- also at home -- with the red, white and blue hosting Siena Heights at 7 p.m. The Titans open the regular season the following Thursday, visiting Michigan State for a 7 p.m. match in East Lansing.
