DETROIT (12/6/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team wrapped up a great fall campaign and also did plenty of work on the recruiting trail locking up three standout players for the 2024 season.

Joining the red, white and blue will be Erin Balbontin (Kissimmee, Fla./Celebration), Mackenzie Marshall (Lake Worth, Fla./Wellington) and Addison Roy (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek). 

Erin Balbontin * Midfield * Kissimmee, Fla. * Celebration

• Earned varsity letters in lacrosse and track and field
• Has tallied 239 points on 174 goals and 65 assists, along with 127 draw controls, 96 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers
• Was the Celebration Storm 2021-2022 Spring Sports Female Athlete of the Year
• Tabbed the team MVP last season after leading her team with 72 goals with 16 assists
• Helped her team to back-to-back Conference 2A District 7 titles
• Played for the Orlando National Team at the 2021 US Lacrosse Women's National Tournament
• Played club with M&D Orlando, M&D Black, Storm Select and Nation United, winning the 2022 National Cup District South tournament and the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Summer Club Championship

Coach Hicks On Balbontin: "Erin was a highly recruited player from the Nation United travel team, which is one of the best teams in the country. As impressive as she is on the field, her GPA and SAT scores were incredible. She has earned a spot in our highly competitive, five-year master's Engineering program and is on her way to doing some incredible things on and off the field at Detroit Mercy."

Mackenzie Marshall * Attack * Lake Worth, Fla. * Wellington

• Earned four varsity letters in lacrosse
• Has posted 96 goals, 59 assists and 31 caused turnovers in her three years and is already the school's all-time leading scorer
• Selected the Attack of the Year last season 
• Named All-County as a sophomore and junior
• Played club with Florida Select, one of the top clubs in the state of Florida that has 12 Division I commits

Coach Hicks On Marshall: "Mackenzie is going to do great things with us. She is a really smart player with a high lacrosse IQ who can attack the cage from every angle. Plus, we like her speed and absolutely love her GPA. She was accepted into our five-year master's program in Criminal Justice, and we are really excited about what she's bringing to the team."

Addison Roy * Midfield/Attack * Beavercreek, Ohio * Beavercreek

• Earned three varsity letters in lacrosse
• Named Second Team All-GWOC as a junior
• Recorded an 81.8% at draws and 57.9% on free position attempts
• Has helped her team to two-straight second-round appearances in the state tournament 
• Played club with Major Force and Velocity Lacrosse

Coach Hicks On Roy: "Addison is an outstanding athlete who is going to be a great lacrosse player for us. She is going to find her niche playing between the lines and have an immediate impact on our team. She knows how to play fast and is coming to Detroit Mercy ready to play."
