Annie Gilbert and sophomore
Cat Kopchia each scored two goals and the Titans outscored the Colonials in the second half, but the rally couldn't get the Titans over the hill as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 decision to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon.
McManus also had a season-tying three caused turnovers, four ground balls and five draw controls. Senior
Elise Harder tallied a game-high eight draw controls, while junior
Marina Butler and sophomore
Cecelia Vergara each scored a goal.
Freshman
Meredith Leavell made six saves and picked up a pair of ground balls and freshman
Leah Bodnar collected three GB's.Â
Robert Morris (6-6, 6-0 MAC) scored two goals to open it up before McManus notched a goal at the 4:55 mark. Despite some good defense, the Titans (1-9, 1-5 MAC) trailed at the break, 7-1.
The Titans started strong in the second half as off a draw control win by senior
Taylor Cantelon, redshirt sophomore
Charlotte Dale found Gilbert and she beat the keeper. McManus then won a draw control and would score on a free position to make it 8-3 just two minutes into play.
Later in the period, Kopchia used the free position for a goal and then, freshman
Maddy Camm set up Butler, who fired one in to bring the team within three, 8-5, with 5:10 left.
In the fourth, Butler unleashed a canon to score on the free position to make it 10-6 at the 12:04 mark. The Titans would then get within three again as Vergara picked up the ground ball and was able to just get it past the goalie and then Kopchia scored again on the free position and it was 11-8 with just under three minutes remaining.
The Titans balled the Colonials and were just edged in ground balls, 19-17, but held firm on draw controls, 17-8.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Tuesday as it makes the trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame.Â
