INDIANAPOLIS (5/26/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team fill up the Horizon League All-Academic Team as five Titans were honored for their grades and athletics.

Thomas Mueller along with seniors
Daniel Lanfear and
Payton Norkey were tabbed to the All-Academic Team, while junior
Dante Bassham was named Honorable Mention All-Academic.
The five selections were tied for the most in the Horizon League.
Cummings - who is graduating with his MBA and has a 4.0 GPA - finished eighth and scored in the 100-meters in a career-best 10.73 at the Horizon League Championships. He was also part of the first-place 4x100-meter relay at the league meet as well as running a leg on three other 4x100 first-place efforts, including the school record 41.05 at Oakland. He was a five-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a four-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.
Mueller holds a 3.91 GPA in Science Information and has been named All-Academic Team five times with two in outdoor, one in indoor and two in cross country. He scored for the Titans earning eighth in the 1,500-meters at the Horizon League Championships. He also posted personal bests on the year in the 800 (1:58), 1,500 (3:57) and 5,000-meters (14:48). He was a five-time member of the AD Honor Roll and a four-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.
Lanfear - a 3.87 GPA student in Computer Science - earns his third All-Academic Team honor to go with his two indoor selections in 2021 and 2022. He is currently competing in the NCAA Division I Championships Preliminary Round in the high jump, the 13th Titan to compete since the preliminary round was introduced in 2010. He finished third in the high jump at the Horizon League Championships with a mark of 2.01-meters. He registered a leap of 2.09m at the Oakland Last Chance Meet to make the NCAA's and he also won the high jump at Concordia and at Oakland's Elaine Leigh Invite. He is a four-time member of the AD Honor Roll and a three-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.
Norkey - a Civil Engineering major with a 3.57 GPA - earned points for the Titans placing third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.91) and fifth in the 400 hurdles (55.34), both career bests, at the Horizon League Championships. He won the 400 hurdles at Concordia and was second in the 110 hurdles at Oakland. He is a three-time member of the AD Honor Roll and a two-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.
Bassham is a 3.42 student in Pre-Science and had the best performance for Detroit Mercy at the Horizon League Championships. He earned the most points for the Titans posting 16 individual points and 14 more in relays, totaling 30 of the program's 77.5. He claimed silver in the 100 and 200 meters, breaking the school record in the 100m with a time of 10.39 in the prelims and was part of the first place 4x100 and the fifth place 4x400-meter relays. During the year, he also ran a leg on three other 4x100 first-place efforts, including the school record 41.05 at Oakland, and is a three-time member of the AD Honor Roll and a two-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.
The All-Academic and Honorable Mention Teams are comprised of student-athletes from eleven of the League's institutions. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
