DETROIT (9/27/22) -
Detroit Mercy Head Women's Basketball Coach Kate Achter and her staff will host the 2022 Best of Michigan Women's Basketball Clinic on Sunday, Oct. 23 beginning at 9 am. The clinic will feature some of the top high school and collegiate basketball coaches in the state of Michigan.
 
Clinic Details:
Cost: $30 – Includes entry to the Detroit Mercy Women's Basketball open scrimmage, women's coach's clinic, free lunch and gift.

Clinic timeline and speaker topics:
9:00 a.m. – Detroit Mercy Women's Basketball Open Scrimmage
 
11:00 a.m. – Ali Bouman – Finishing Drills: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at D'Youville University, a Division II University in Buffalo. Bouman has spent time at Calvin University in Michigan and Davenport University in Michigan as both a player and coach.
 
11:20 a.m. – Darrin McAllister – Elite Level Rebounding: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at West Bloomfield High School. Coach "D-Mac" is fresh off leading West Bloomfield to the 2022 Division I State Championship in Michigan. He has also spent time as a collegiate coach at Wayne State University with the women's basketball program.
 
11:40 a.m. – Monique Brown – Full Court Press Defense: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at Detroit Edison Prep Academy. Coach Brown has built a national power-house here in Detroit with her basketball program at DEPSA. In 2022-2023, they will be making a push to win their 5th state championship with Coach Brown at the helm.
 
12:00 p.m. – Troy Hammond – Special Situations: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at East Grand Rapids High School. Coach Hammond has built a name for himself as one of the brightest young coaching minds in the state both in school leagues and in the travel circuit.
 
12:20 p.m. – Sue Syljebeck – Competitive Drills: Current Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach at Siena Heights University. Coach Sue is a hall of fame collegiate coach who has built an annual contender at the NAIA level at local Siena Heights. She is now the Athletic Director of the University, but has also spent time on numerous collegiate coaching boards (coaches poll, WBCA, All-America, etc.), coaching committees, and more.
 
12:40 p.m. – Rod Wells – Building a Program: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at Salem High School. Coach Wells has made a reputation on building contenders. He was at the helm of Arbor Prep during their initial rise and State Championship in 2016. Prior to Salem, he helped build up the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball programs where they saw the best seasons in program history.
 
1:00 p.m. – Amber Deane – Read and React Drills: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at Detroit Country Day. Coach Deane is just taking over the history DC Day basketball program after completing a successful collegiate and professional playing career.
 
1:20 p.m. – Ryan Trevithick – Transition Offense: Current Head Women's Basketball Coach at Flint Powers High School. Coach Trevithick has been involved in all levels of the game from the travel circuit, high school, and collegiately as both an assistant and head coach at Saginaw Valley State University.
 
1:40 p.m. – Andrew Secor – 4 keys to #MakeShots: Coach Secor has built a reputation for developing some of the best shooters in the state. His training program #MakeShots has grown tremendously in recent years as local players and coaches alike have begun to catch on to the level of players he's producing.
 
2:00 p.m. Kate Achter – Half-Court Defense: Coach Achter is her first season Detroit Mercy. Coach Achter comes to the Titans after spending the past half-decade at Loyola in Chicago. At Loyola, Coach Achter took a program from two wins, to a fouth place conference finish and 18 total wins last season. She will demonstrate the toughness, discipline, and grit her teams play with on the defensive side of the floor.
