FORT WAYNE, IN. (2/27/23) -- The University of Detroit Mercy used over a dozen top-eight finishes to claim fourth as a team at the 2023 Horizon League Indoor Championships hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne. 

Bassham Leads the Charge
After finishing the regular-season with the most Male Athlete of the Week nominations in the Horizon League, Dante Bassham earned Co-Championship Outstanding Performer for runners. Bassham earned gold in both the 60-Meter and 200-Meter Dashes with times of 6.73 and 21.75 seconds respectively. 

Other Top-Finishes
Elijah Major came in silver for both the 60-Meter and 200-Meter Dashes behind Bassham with times of 6.87 and 21.95 seconds. 

Rookie Antonio Talley finished eighth in the 400-Meter at 51.53 seconds. 

Payton Norkey scored seventh in the 60-Meter Hudles for the Titans at 8.50 seconds. 

Both the 4x400 Relay and Distance Medley Relay teams finished fourth in their respective events for Detroit Mercy. The 4x400 team of Payton Norkey, Antonio Talley, Elijah Major, and Davis Hellonen ran a 3:29.81 time. The Medley team featured John Burke, Hellonen, Isaiah Bonner, and Joshua Otten as they ran a 10:28.30 time. 

Detroit Mercy saw both Daniel Lanfear and Cody Bartlett earn spots in the top-eight in the High Jump. Lanfear had a season best mark of 2.01 meters for seventh while Bartlett cleared 2.01 meters to finish eighth and secure a new personal record. 

The men's Triple Jump featured another pair of Titans in the top-eight. Zachary Zaborney went seventh at 13.59 meters and Evan Eding was eighth at 13.48 meters. Both distances are personal records. 

In the Heptathlon Simon Jones and Avery Duncan finished fifth and sixth with 3880 and 3752 points each. Jones' score is a new personal record as he also set a personal best in the Shot Put portion of the event.
