DETROIT (3/30/23) – The Detroit Mercy softball team continues #HLSB play at Purdue Fort Wayne. Titans and Mastodons play single a game on Friday, March 31 at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Purdue Fort Wayne Softball Field.

Scouting the Competition:
Purdue Fort Wayne is 7-18 on the season and 0-2 in #HLSB play. The Mastodons are led by freshman catch/utility player Grace Hollopeter who leads the team in batting (.324), hits (23), home runs (4) runs (14), total bases (39) and at-bats (68) while ranking second in RBI (12).

Detroit Mercy 4 vs YSU 2 (3/27)
Freshman Trinity Fessler Senior went 2-for-3 with a clutch two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning which proved to be the winning hit propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 #HLSB win over visiting Youngstown State in the series finale on Monday afternoon. For the eighth time this season, senior Olivia Warrington went the distance picking up her second win of the season with three strikeouts. 
 
Seniors Allison Smith and Renee Trotman each hit 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Ryann Glenn went 1-for-2 picking up her first RBI in a Titan uniform with a single in the first inning while senior Jordyn Chapman hit 1-for-3 to account for one of Detroit Mercy's (3-17, 2-3 HL) eight total hits for the game.
 
At the Dish:
Lara leading the way:
Jaiden Lara leads the team in batting (.275), hits (14), RBI (6), walks (7), total bases (21) and at bats (51) while ranking second in runs (3).
 
Ladies Dig the Long Ball:
Lara also leads the team in home runs (2) after hitting one in consecutive days at Elon (3/7) and at NC A&T (3/8). Alison Donaugh posted her first career home run at Campbell (3/10) followed by Glenn's at RMU. Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season at home against YSU (3/26).
 
We're Going Streaking:
Earlier this season, Lara had a six-game hitting streak between Creighton and Chattanooga where she posted nine total hits and two RBI. She also had a stint of reaching base for seven consecutive games.
 
Hit Leaders:
Renee Trotman (9), Trinity Fessler (9) rank second on the team in hits behind Lara followed by Kara Wolfbauer (7), Rusti Glenn (6) Hazel (5) and Jordyn Chapman (5).
 
Two and Three is Better than One:
Glenn, Fessler and Lara lead the team in multi-hit games (2) followed by Jordyn Chapman (1), Jenna Holt (1) and Hazel (1). Hazel is the only player with a three-hit game which came against Creighton (2/11).
 
Bring Em Home:
Trotman ranks second on the team in RBI (3) behind Lara while Alison Donaugh (2), Hazel (2), Chapman (2) and Fessler (2) and Rusti Glenn (2) are tied for third.
 
Double Trouble:
Trotman also leads the team in doubles (4) followed by Hazel (3), Wolfbauer (2), Lara (1) and Chapman (1). As a team, the Titans have posted 12 total doubles.
 
Three the Hard Way:
Hazel has the team's lone triple which came against WIU (2/12).
 
Freshman Firsts:
- Fessler recoded her first collegiate hit against Evansville going 2-for-3.
- Prior to her homer at Campbell, Douaugh's first RBI came of a sacrifice fly in the Titans' first win of the season over NC A&T.
- Douaugh also is pulling double-duty and made her first start in the circle against Evansville (2/11)
- Rusti Glenn posted her first career hit against Creighton (2/11) and first career home run at RMU (3/16)
 
In the Circle:
- Warrington leads the Titans in innings pitched (60.0), strikeouts (37) and appearances (11) with her two wins coming against RMU and YSU
- Spitzer ranks second in innings pitched (38.2), strikeouts (15) and appearances (9) with her lone win coming at NC A&T.
 
Going the distance:
Warrington leads also leads the team in complete games (8) followed by Spitzer (4).
 
Detroit Mercy Sweeps Nike® #HLSB Weekly Honors:
Rusti Glenn was named Nike® Horizon League Softball Player of the Week while Olivia Warrington was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marked the second consecutive week the Titans have garnered Pitcher of the Week honors as Chloe Spitzer won last week.
 
Glenn, a freshman from Fort Mohave, Ariz., hit a blistering .800 going 4-for-5 with a home run, RBI and run scored while accounting for seven total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage. After going 2-for-2 in the game one setback at Robert Morris, Glenn hit 2-for-3 belting her first career home run to propel Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win to earn a doubleheader split and secure the Titans' first #HLSB victory of the season.
 
Warrington, a senior from Clarkston, Mich., secured her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in the Titans doubleheader split at RMU.
 
Spitzer Named Nike® #HLSB Pitcher of the Week:
Chloe Spitzer was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week (#HLSB) announced by the league office. Spitzer, a sophomore from Mohave Valley, Ariz., tossed two complete games in both of her starts posting a 1-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and six strikeouts during the week for Detroit Mercy. She posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches leading the Titans to their first win of the season at North Carolina A&T. In her second start at Campbell, Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance for the third time on the year allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work as the Titans were edged by the Fighting Camels, 2-1.
 
Close but no Cigar:
Detroit Mercy has lost four games by a single run: 3-2 vs BGSU (2/10), 4-3 vs Creighton (2/11), 2-1 vs WIU (3/12) and 2-1 at Campbell (3/11).
 
Walk-Off Woes:
The Titans have lost two games in walk-off fashion against Creighton (4-3) and Western Illinois (2-1) at the DePaul Dome Tournament.

2023 Preseason Poll:
Detroit Mercy was picked to finish ninth in the 2023 Horizon League Softball Preseason Poll announced by the league office and voted on by the league's seven nine coaches. The Titans received 13 overall points.

Senior Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season while Ryann Glenn hit 2-for-5 overall with a run scored as Detroit Mercy dropped a #HLSB home-opening doubleheader 13-1 and 5-1 to visiting Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon. Senior Allison Smith also went 1-for-2 with an RBI and walk in the nightcap. Freshmen Jenna Holt and Trinity Fessler and sophomore Jaiden Lara each also recorded a hit.

Freshman Rusti Glenn belted her first career home going 2-for-3 with an RBI run while senior Olivia Warrington tossed a complete game shutout lifting Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win in game two to earn a doubleheader split after falling 7-0 at Robert Morris in #HLSB opening action on Thursday afternoon. Warrington only gave up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Glenn also hit 2-for-2 in game one to go 4-for-5 on the day while freshman Jenna Holt went 3-for-4 overall going 2-for-3 with a walk in game two and 1-for-1 in game one. Senior Allison Smith also went 1-for-2 with a run scored and walk in the nightcap. Sophomore Jaiden Lara recorded a hit in game one.

Freshman Rusti Glenn went 1-for-2 recording her first career RBI single to score senior Jordyn Chapman in the first game while senior Renee Trotman reached on a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the nightcap as Detroit Mercy dropped a doubleheader (2-1 and 9-1) at Campbell to conclude the weekend series at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. Sophomore Chloe Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in game one. Senior Kara Wolfbauer, sophomore Jaiden Lara, freshman Alison Donaugh, senior Allison Smith and junior Maddy Heilner each recorded a hit with Heilner scoring a run in game two.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 at Campbell 9 (5 inn.) (3/10)
Freshman Alison Donaugh hit her first collegiate home run going 1-for-2 at the plate while senior Renee Trotman and sophomore Jaiden Lara each recorded a hit as Detroit Mercy fell 9-1 in the series opener at Campbell on Friday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
 
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 1 at North Carolina A&T State 2 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 4 at North Carolina A&T State 2 (3/3)
For the second consecutive day, sophomore Jaiden Lara hit a home run as her two-run shot proved to be the difference propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 win at North Carolina A&T State earning a doubleheader split on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Sophomore Chloe Spitzer posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches in the winning effort. The Titans were edged in game one, 3-1.
 
Senior Jordyn Chapman went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored followed by freshman Trinity Fessler who hit 2-for-2 with a run scored and walk. Senior Kara Wolfbauer also went 1-for-2 while freshman Alison Donaugh picked up an RBI off a sacrifice fly.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 at Elon 9 (5 inn.) (3/7)
Sophomore Jaiden Lara hit 1-for-3 belting her first home run of the season as Detroit Mercy kicked off their Spring Break road swing with a 9-1 setback at Elon on Tuesday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.
 
Black and Red Tournament (Mar. 4-5):
- Lara led the team for the second consecutive weekend posting four hits
- Trotman and Hazel both posted a double with an RBI each. They both lead the team in doubles (3) and rank second in hits (5).
- Wolfbauer and junior Maddy Heilner recorded two hits
- Chapman added her second RBI of the season
- Junior Ryann Glenn recorded her first hit in a Titan uniform vs Harvard.
 
DePaul Dome Tournament (Feb. 10-12):
- Lara led the Titans in hitting (.385), hits (5), RBI (2) and total bases (6) with a double and .929 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
- Chapman was second in hits (4) and tops in total bases (8), doubles (2) and triples (1).
- Wolfbauer and Renee Trotman also hit two doubles each.
- Freshman Trinity Fessler recoded three total hits with her first collegiate hit against Evansville going 2-for-3 and added another against WIU.
