DETROIT (3/30/23) – The Detroit Mercy softball team continues #HLSB play at Purdue Fort Wayne. Titans and Mastodons play single a game on Friday, March 31 at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Purdue Fort Wayne Softball Field.

Purdue Fort Wayne is 7-18 on the season and 0-2 in #HLSB play. The Mastodons are led by freshman catch/utility player Grace Hollopeter who leads the team in batting (.324), hits (23), home runs (4) runs (14), total bases (39) and at-bats (68) while ranking second in RBI (12).

Trinity Fessler Senior went 2-for-3 with a clutch two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning which proved to be the winning hit propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 #HLSB win over visiting Youngstown State in the series finale on Monday afternoon. For the eighth time this season, senior
Olivia Warrington went the distance picking up her second win of the season with three strikeouts.

Jordyn Chapman hit 1-for-3 to account for one of Detroit Mercy's (3-17, 2-3 HL) eight total hits for the game.

Jaiden Lara leads the team in batting (.275), hits (14), RBI (6), walks (7), total bases (21) and at bats (51) while ranking second in runs (3).
Ladies Dig the Long Ball:
Lara also leads the team in home runs (2) after hitting one in consecutive days at Elon (3/7) and at NC A&T (3/8).
Alison Donaugh posted her first career home run at Campbell (3/10) followed by Glenn's at RMU.
Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season at home against YSU (3/26).
We're Going Streaking:
Earlier this season, Lara had a six-game hitting streak between Creighton and Chattanooga where she posted nine total hits and two RBI. She also had a stint of reaching base for seven consecutive games.

Trotman ranks second on the team in RBI (3) behind Lara while
Alison Donaugh (2), Hazel (2), Chapman (2) and Fessler (2) and
Rusti Glenn (2) are tied for third.
Double Trouble:
Trotman also leads the team in doubles (4) followed by Hazel (3), Wolfbauer (2), Lara (1) and Chapman (1). As a team, the Titans have posted 12 total doubles.
Three the Hard Way:
Hazel has the team's lone triple which came against WIU (2/12).
Freshman Firsts:
- Fessler recoded her first collegiate hit against Evansville going 2-for-3.
- Prior to her homer at Campbell, Douaugh's first RBI came of a sacrifice fly in the Titans' first win of the season over NC A&T.
- Douaugh also is pulling double-duty and made her first start in the circle against Evansville (2/11)

Detroit Mercy Sweeps Nike® #HLSB Weekly Honors:
Rusti Glenn was named Nike® Horizon League Softball Player of the Week while
Olivia Warrington was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marked the second consecutive week the Titans have garnered Pitcher of the Week honors as
Chloe Spitzer won last week.
Glenn, a freshman from Fort Mohave, Ariz., hit a blistering .800 going 4-for-5 with a home run, RBI and run scored while accounting for seven total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage. After going 2-for-2 in the game one setback at Robert Morris, Glenn hit 2-for-3 belting her first career home run to propel Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win to earn a doubleheader split and secure the Titans' first #HLSB victory of the season.
Warrington, a senior from Clarkston, Mich., secured her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in the Titans doubleheader split at RMU.
Spitzer Named Nike® #HLSB Pitcher of the Week:
Chloe Spitzer was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week (#HLSB) announced by the league office. Spitzer, a sophomore from Mohave Valley, Ariz., tossed two complete games in both of her starts posting a 1-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and six strikeouts during the week for Detroit Mercy. She posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches leading the Titans to their first win of the season at North Carolina A&T. In her second start at Campbell, Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance for the third time on the year allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work as the Titans were edged by the Fighting Camels, 2-1.
Close but no Cigar:
Detroit Mercy has lost four games by a single run: 3-2 vs BGSU (2/10), 4-3 vs Creighton (2/11), 2-1 vs WIU (3/12) and 2-1 at Campbell (3/11).
Walk-Off Woes:
The Titans have lost two games in walk-off fashion against Creighton (4-3) and Western Illinois (2-1) at the DePaul Dome Tournament.
2023 Preseason Poll:
Detroit Mercy was picked to finish ninth in the 2023 Horizon League Softball Preseason Poll announced by the league office and voted on by the league's seven nine coaches. The Titans received 13 overall points.

Jaiden Lara hit 1-for-3 belting her first home run of the season as Detroit Mercy kicked off their Spring Break road swing with a 9-1 setback at Elon on Tuesday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.

- Chapman was second in hits (4) and tops in total bases (8), doubles (2) and triples (1).
