DETROIT (4/26/23) – The Detroit Mercy softball team concludes their nine-game #HLSB home stand with a weekend series against IUPUI. The Titans and Jaguars will play a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27 at 1 pm. and 3 p.m. for Senior Day followed by a single game on Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m. (weather permitted).

Senior Salute:
Prior to the doubleheader, the team will honor four seniors in Ryann Glenn, Jordan Hazel, Allison Smith and Kara Wolfbauer for their hard work and dedication to the program.
 
One Smart Cookie:
Senior Kara Wolfbauer was named the University of Detroit Mercy Class of 2023 Valedictorian. The St. Clair Shores native holds a 3.92 GPA with a double major in Communications and Psychology and is the seventh Titan student-athlete to earn the Valedictorian distinction at the University and second in four years, following Sarah Hirschmann in 2020. Wolfbauer received many honors at the 2023 College of Liberal Arts & Education Honors Convocation. She received several leadership honors and was named the John Daniels Student Leader of the Year Award, for showing outstanding growth throughout her undergraduate career and committing herself in the role of servant leader. She was also bestowed with the Communication Excellence Award.
 
Scouting the Competition:
IUPUI is 13-29 on the season and 9-10 in #HLSB play sitting sixth in the league standings. The Jaguars are led by graduate student outfielder Jaida Speth who leads the team in batting (.372, 2nd-HL) and hits (42), while ranking second total bases (52), third in doubles (8), triples (1) and stolen bases (6) and fourth in runs (16).

Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 2 vs Northern Kentucky 5 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 0 vs Northern Kentucky 6 (4/15)
Senior Allison Smith belted her first home run of the season while freshman Jenna Holt went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks as Detroit Mercy was edged 5-2 by Northern Kentucky in the first game of a #HLSB doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. The Titans also fell 6-0 in the nightcap to the Norse.
 
Senior Kara Wolfbauer and freshman Alison Donaugh also each recorded hits in the first game while junior Maddy Heilner recorded an RBI off a fielder's choice. Sophomore Chloe Spitzer tossed 6.0 innings with two strikeouts while Donaugh also pulled double duty pitching an inning in relief with a strikeout.

Three players have posted a three-hit game in Hazel (3-for-4) against Creighton (2/11), Donaugh (3-for-4) vs Oakland (4/12), Heliner (3-for-3) vs Oakland (4/11) and Ryann Glenn (3-for-3) vs Oakland (4/12).
 
Swinging a Hot Stick in #HLSB Play:
In Horizon League game action, two players are close to batting .300 in Donaugh (.294) and Jenna Holt (.289). Holt leads the team in hits (11) followed by Donaugh (10), Alison Smith (8). Donaugh (2) and Wolfbauer (2) lead the way in doubles while Lara leads in home runs (2). Smith (4), Donaugh (3), Fessler (3) and Lara (3) are tops in RBI.
 
Lara Leading the Way:
Jaiden Lara leads the team hits (18), RBI (9), walks (11), total bases (31) and at bats (81) while ranking second in batting (.222) and runs (5). Jenna Holt is tops in the team in in batting (.224).

Lara also leads the team in home runs (4 – T-3nd HL) after hitting one in consecutive days at Elon (3/7) and at NC A&T (3/8) followed by her third at PFW (3/31) and fourth against Oakland (4/12). Donaugh posted her first career home run at Campbell (3/10) and her second against Oakland (4/12) followed by Glenn's at RMU (3/16). Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season at home against YSU (3/26). Smith smashed her first homer of the season against NKU (4/15).
 
Hit Leaders:
Wolfbauer (14) ranks second on the team in hits followed by Fessler (12), Donaugh (12) and Holt (11).
 
Two is Better than One:
Fessler leads the team in multi-hit games (3) followed by Lara (2), Rusti Glenn (2), Holt (2), Wolfbauer (2), Smith (1), Hazel (1) and Donaugh (1).
 
Bring Em Home:
Donaugh ranks second on the team in RBI (5) behind Lara while Smith (4) ranks third and Fessler (3) in fourth.
 
Double Trouble:
Wolfbauer leads the team in doubles (4) followed by Hazel (3) in second, Donaugh (2) in third and Lara (1), Holt (1) and Smith (1). As a team, the Titans have posted 17 total doubles.
 
Doin' Work:
Alison Donaugh hit .455 going 5-for-11 with a home run, double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Ryann Glenn hit .750 (3-for-4) followed by Allison Smith posting .500 (4-for-8) with a double and Kara Wolfbauer hitting .364 (4-for-11) with a double in the Metro Series against arch-rival Oakland.

Hazel posted the team's first triple against WIU (2/12) followed by Holt at CSU (4/8).
 
Freshman Firsts:
- Holt posted her first career hit at RMU (3/16) and followed with her first career double and triple at CSU (4/8).
- Fessler recoded her first collegiate hit against Evansville going 2-for-3.
- Prior to her first career homer at Campbell, Douaugh's first RBI came of a sacrifice fly in the Titans' first win of the season over NC A&T.
- Douaugh also pulls double-duty making her first start in the circle against Evansville (2/11).
- Rusti Glenn posted her first career hit against Creighton (2/11) and first career home run at RMU (3/16).
 
Holt Holds Her Own at CSU:
Holt led the Tians in hitting (.375), hits (3), and total bases (6) while recording her first career triple and double at Cleveland State.
 
We're Going Streaking:
Earlier this season, Lara had a six-game hitting streak between Creighton and Chattanooga where she posted nine total hits and two RBI. She also had a stint of reaching base for seven consecutive games.
 
In the Circle:
- Warrington leads the Titans in innings pitched (107.2 – 8th HL), strikeouts (71 – 9th HL), appearances (19), and starts (18) and with her two wins coming against RMU and YSU.
- Spitzer ranks second in innings pitched (59.0), strikeouts (24) and appearances (13) and starts (11) with her lone win coming at NC A&T.
 
Going the distance:
Warrington leads also leads the team in complete games (15) followed by Spitzer (5).
 
Detroit Mercy Sweeps Nike® #HLSB Weekly Honors:
Rusti Glenn was named Nike® Horizon League Softball Player of the Week while Olivia Warrington was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marked the second consecutive week the Titans have garnered Pitcher of the Week honors as Chloe Spitzer won last week.
 
Glenn, a freshman from Fort Mohave, Ariz., hit a blistering .800 going 4-for-5 with a home run, RBI and run scored while accounting for seven total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage. After going 2-for-2 in the game one setback at Robert Morris, Glenn hit 2-for-3 belting her first career home run to propel Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win to earn a doubleheader split and secure the Titans' first #HLSB victory of the season.
 
Warrington, a senior from Clarkston, Mich., secured her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in the Titans doubleheader split at RMU.
 
Spitzer Named Nike® #HLSB Pitcher of the Week:
Chloe Spitzer was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week (#HLSB) announced by the league office. Spitzer, a sophomore from Mohave Valley, Ariz., tossed two complete games in both of her starts posting a 1-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and six strikeouts during the week for Detroit Mercy. She posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches leading the Titans to their first win of the season at North Carolina A&T. In her second start at Campbell, Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance for the third time on the year allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work as the Titans were edged by the Fighting Camels, 2-1.
 
Close but no Cigar:
Detroit Mercy has lost four games by a single run: 3-2 vs BGSU (2/10), 4-3 vs Creighton (2/11), 2-1 vs WIU (3/12) and 2-1 at Campbell (3/11) and two games by two runs, 4-2 vs YSU (3/27) and 7-5 (8 inn.) vs Oakland (4/12).
 
Walk-Off Woes:
The Titans have lost two games in walk-off fashion against Creighton (4-3) and Western Illinois (2-1) at the DePaul Dome Tournament.

Season Rewind:
Detroit Mercy 0 vs Northern Kentucky 2 (4/14)
Senior Olivia Warrington had a solid outing in the circle tossing her 13th complete game on the season not allowing a run over the first five innings while posting six strikeouts in her second consecutive outing as Detroit Mercy fell 2-0 to NKU in #HLSB series opening action on Friday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.
 
Warrington ended up only surrendering two runs off two hits in the sixth inning but was outdueled by NKU (12-26, 7-7 HL) pitcher Lauryn Hicks who tossed a complete game no-hitter with 16 strikeouts.
 
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 5 vs Oakland 7 (8 inn.) | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 2 vs Oakland 8 (4/12)
Freshman Alison Donaugh posted an impressive performance at the plate going 4-for-8 overall while hitting 3-for-4 with a home run and single to account for three RBI in game one of Metro Series doubleheader action as Detroit Mercy was edged 7-5 in eight innings to arch-rival Oakland. In game two, sophomore Jaiden Lara hit her team-best fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot as the Titans fell 8-2 in the nightcap. For the series, Donaugh went 6-for-11 with a home run and double.
 
Senior Allison Smith also hit 2-for-4 with a two-run single in game one that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Senior Kara Wolfbauer hit 3-for-7 overall and 2-for-4 in game two followed by Junior Ryann Glenn went a perfect 3-for-3. Freshman Jenna Holt also posted a hit with a run scored while freshmen Trinity Fessler and Rusti Glenn and junior Maddy Heilner each scored a run.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 vs Oakland 13 (4/11)
Junior Maddy Heilner went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored while senior Kara Wolfbauer went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a walk as Detroit Mercy dropped the Metro Series opener 13-1 to arch-rival Oakland on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Alison Donaugh also hit 2-for-3 with a double with freshman Jenna Holt going 1-for-4.

Freshman Jenna Holt had a solid day at the plate going 3-for-6 overall including hitting her first career triple as Detroit Mercy fell 12-0 and 3-0 in #HLSB doubleheader action at Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Trinity Fessler and sophomore Jaiden Lara also each recorded a hit in the first game. Holt hit a double which was the Titans' only hit in the second game. Also in the nightcap, senior Olivia Warrington went the distance once again in the circle tossing 6.0 innings with a strikeout.
 
Detroit Mercy 0 at CSU 3 (4/7)
Freshman Alison Donaugh went 1-for-3 with a double while senior Kara Wolfbauer went 1-for-2 accounting for both of Detroit Mercy's hits as the Titans fell 3-0 in the series opener at Cleveland State on Good Friday afternoon. Senior Olivia Warrington went the distance in the circle tossing 6.0 innings with four strikeouts.
 
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 0 at PFW 10 (5 inn.) | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 1 at PFW 8 (4/2)
Freshman Alison Donaugh hit 2-for-4 overall going 1-for-2 in both games as Detroit Mercy dropped a doubleheader, 10-0 and 8-1, at Purdue Fort Wayne. Sophomore Jaiden Lara went 1-for-2 with a walk while freshman Trinity Fessler and senior Jordan Hazel each hit 1-for-3 in the nightcap. Freshman Jenna Holt also went 1-for-2 in the first game.
 
Detroit Mercy 2 at PFW 5 (3/31)
Sophomore Jaiden Lara went 1-for-3 hitting her team-leading third home run of the season while freshman Trinity Fessler added an RBI single also going 1-for-3 as Detroit Mercy came up short falling 5-2 in the series opener at Purdue Fort Wayne. Junior Maddy Heilner added a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning to load the bases and set up Fessler's RBI. Senior Olivia Warrington went the distance with four strikeouts in the circle.
 
Detroit Mercy 4 vs YSU 2 (3/27)
Freshman Trinity Fessler Senior went 2-for-3 with a clutch two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning which proved to be the winning hit propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 #HLSB win over visiting Youngstown State in the series finale. For the eighth time this season, senior Olivia Warrington went the distance picking up her second win of the season with three strikeouts. 
 
Seniors Allison Smith and Renee Trotman each hit 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Ryann Glenn went 1-for-2 picking up her first RBI in a Titan uniform with a single in the first inning while senior Jordyn Chapman hit 1-for-3 to account for one of Detroit Mercy's (3-17, 2-3 HL) eight total hits for the game.

Senior Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season while Ryann Glenn hit 2-for-5 overall with a run scored as Detroit Mercy dropped a #HLSB home-opening doubleheader 13-1 and 5-1 to visiting Youngstown State. Senior Allison Smith also went 1-for-2 with an RBI and walk in the nightcap. Freshmen Jenna Holt and Trinity Fessler and sophomore Jaiden Lara each also recorded a hit.

Freshman Rusti Glenn belted her first career home going 2-for-3 with an RBI run while senior Olivia Warrington tossed a complete game shutout lifting Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win in game two to earn a doubleheader split after falling 7-0 at Robert Morris in #HLSB opening action. Warrington only gave up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Glenn also hit 2-for-2 in game one to go 4-for-5 on the day while freshman Jenna Holt went 3-for-4 overall going 2-for-3 with a walk in game two and 1-for-1 in game one. Senior Allison Smith also went 1-for-2 with a run scored and walk in the nightcap. Sophomore Jaiden Lara recorded a hit in game one.

Freshman Rusti Glenn went 1-for-2 recording her first career RBI single to score senior Jordyn Chapman in the first game while senior Renee Trotman reached on a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the nightcap as Detroit Mercy dropped a doubleheader (2-1 and 9-1) at Campbell to conclude the weekend series at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. Sophomore Chloe Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in game one. Senior Kara Wolfbauer, sophomore Jaiden Lara, freshman Alison Donaugh, senior Allison Smith and junior Maddy Heilner each recorded a hit with Heilner scoring a run in game two.

Freshman Alison Donaugh hit her first collegiate home run going 1-for-2 at the plate while senior Renee Trotman and sophomore Jaiden Lara each recorded a hit as Detroit Mercy fell 9-1 in the series opener at Campbell on Friday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
 
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 1 at North Carolina A&T State 2 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 4 at North Carolina A&T State 2 (3/3)
For the second consecutive day, sophomore Jaiden Lara hit a home run as her two-run shot proved to be the difference propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 win at North Carolina A&T State earning a doubleheader split on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Sophomore Chloe Spitzer posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches in the winning effort. The Titans were edged in game one, 3-1.
 
Senior Jordyn Chapman went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored followed by freshman Trinity Fessler who hit 2-for-2 with a run scored and walk. Senior Kara Wolfbauer also went 1-for-2 while freshman Alison Donaugh picked up an RBI off a sacrifice fly.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 at Elon 9 (5 inn.) (3/7)
Sophomore Jaiden Lara hit 1-for-3 belting her first home run of the season as Detroit Mercy kicked off their Spring Break road swing with a 9-1 setback at Elon on Tuesday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.
 
Black and Red Tournament (Mar. 4-5):
- Lara led the team for the second consecutive weekend posting four hits
- Trotman and Hazel both posted a double with an RBI each. They both lead the team in doubles (3) and rank second in hits (5).
- Wolfbauer and junior Maddy Heilner recorded two hits
- Chapman added her second RBI of the season
- Junior Ryann Glenn recorded her first hit in a Titan uniform vs Harvard.
 
DePaul Dome Tournament (Feb. 10-12):
- Lara led the Titans in hitting (.385), hits (5), RBI (2) and total bases (6) with a double and .929 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
- Chapman was second in hits (4) and tops in total bases (8), doubles (2) and triples (1).
- Wolfbauer and Renee Trotman also hit two doubles each.
- Freshman Trinity Fessler recoded three total hits with her first collegiate hit against Evansville going 2-for-3 and added another against WIU.
