DETROIT (4/26/23) – The Detroit Mercy softball team concludes their nine-game #HLSB home stand with a weekend series against IUPUI. The Titans and Jaguars will play a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27 at 1 pm. and 3 p.m. for Senior Day followed by a single game on Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m. (weather permitted).

Senior
Kara Wolfbauer was named the University of Detroit Mercy Class of 2023 Valedictorian. The St. Clair Shores native holds a 3.92 GPA with a double major in Communications and Psychology and is the seventh Titan student-athlete to earn the Valedictorian distinction at the University and second in four years, following Sarah Hirschmann in 2020. Wolfbauer received many honors at the 2023 College of Liberal Arts & Education Honors Convocation. She received several leadership honors and was named the John Daniels Student Leader of the Year Award, for showing outstanding growth throughout her undergraduate career and committing herself in the role of servant leader. She was also bestowed with the Communication Excellence Award.
Scouting the Competition:
IUPUI is 13-29 on the season and 9-10 in #HLSB play sitting sixth in the league standings. The Jaguars are led by graduate student outfielder Jaida Speth who leads the team in batting (.372, 2nd-HL) and hits (42), while ranking second total bases (52), third in doubles (8), triples (1) and stolen bases (6) and fourth in runs (16).

Allison Smith belted her first home run of the season while freshman
Jenna Holt went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks as Detroit Mercy was edged 5-2 by Northern Kentucky in the first game of a #HLSB doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. The Titans also fell 6-0 in the nightcap to the Norse.

In Horizon League game action, two players are close to batting .300 in Donaugh (.294) and

Donaugh posted her first career home run at Campbell (3/10) and her second against Oakland (4/12) followed by Glenn's at RMU (3/16).
Jordan Hazel hit her first home run of the season at home against YSU (3/26). Smith smashed her first homer of the season against NKU (4/15).

Earlier this season, Lara had a six-game hitting streak between Creighton and Chattanooga where she posted nine total hits and two RBI. She also had a stint of reaching base for seven consecutive games.
In the Circle:
- Warrington leads the Titans in innings pitched (107.2 – 8th HL), strikeouts (71 – 9th HL), appearances (19), and starts (18) and with her two wins coming against RMU and YSU.
- Spitzer ranks second in innings pitched (59.0), strikeouts (24) and appearances (13) and starts (11) with her lone win coming at NC A&T.

Detroit Mercy Sweeps Nike® #HLSB Weekly Honors:
Rusti Glenn was named Nike® Horizon League Softball Player of the Week while
Olivia Warrington was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marked the second consecutive week the Titans have garnered Pitcher of the Week honors as
Chloe Spitzer won last week.
Glenn, a freshman from Fort Mohave, Ariz., hit a blistering .800 going 4-for-5 with a home run, RBI and run scored while accounting for seven total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage. After going 2-for-2 in the game one setback at Robert Morris, Glenn hit 2-for-3 belting her first career home run to propel Detroit Mercy to a 2-0 win to earn a doubleheader split and secure the Titans' first #HLSB victory of the season.
Warrington, a senior from Clarkston, Mich., secured her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up three scattered hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in the Titans doubleheader split at RMU.
Spitzer Named Nike® #HLSB Pitcher of the Week:
Chloe Spitzer was named Nike® Horizon League Pitcher of the Week (#HLSB) announced by the league office. Spitzer, a sophomore from Mohave Valley, Ariz., tossed two complete games in both of her starts posting a 1-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and six strikeouts during the week for Detroit Mercy. She posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches leading the Titans to their first win of the season at North Carolina A&T. In her second start at Campbell, Spitzer was solid in the circle not allowing a runner on base until the fourth inning. She went the distance for the third time on the year allowing two runs on five scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work as the Titans were edged by the Fighting Camels, 2-1.

Detroit Mercy has lost four games by a single run: 3-2 vs BGSU (2/10), 4-3 vs Creighton (2/11), 2-1 vs WIU (3/12) and 2-1 at Campbell (3/11) and two games by two runs, 4-2 vs YSU (3/27) and 7-5 (8 inn.) vs Oakland (4/12).
Walk-Off Woes:
The Titans have lost two games in walk-off fashion against Creighton (4-3) and Western Illinois (2-1) at the DePaul Dome Tournament.

Olivia Warrington had a solid outing in the circle tossing her 13th complete game on the season not allowing a run over the first five innings while posting six strikeouts in her second consecutive outing as Detroit Mercy fell 2-0 to NKU in #HLSB series opening action on Friday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.
Warrington ended up only surrendering two runs off two hits in the sixth inning but was outdueled by NKU (12-26, 7-7 HL) pitcher Lauryn Hicks who tossed a complete game no-hitter with 16 strikeouts.
