Jaiden Lara went 2-for-3 belting her team-best fifth home run of the year as Detroit Mercy concluded their nine-game #HLSB home slate with a 7-1 setback to IUPUI on Saturday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.
Freshman
Jenna Holt drew two walks while seniors
Jordan Hazel and
Allison Smith also drew a walk each.
Recap:
• Detroit Mercy (3-32, 2-18 HL) got runners on first and second base in the first inning with a lead-off walk by Holt followed by a single by Lara but were unable to scratch across a run.
• IUPUI (16-29, 12-10 HL) took a 2-0 lead off a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.
• The Jags scratched across an unearned run in the fourth inning and added two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
• Lara put the Titans on the board with her homer over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the sixth inning.
• IUPUI added another run off an error and two more off RBI singles for a 7-1 advantage in the top of the seventh inning.
• In the bottom half of the seventh, Smith drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball moving into scoring position. However, the Titans were unable to bring her home as the final three batters were retired in order.
Detroit Mercy travels to Green Bay for the final #HLSB series of the season beginning on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
