DETROIT (1/8/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team is getting ready for the 2024 season, and after a highly successful fall training campaign, the Titans are adding to their squad with a pair of transfers in
Jane Peck (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and
Sam Gargiulo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North).
Peck is coming from LaSalle, while Gargiulo originally signed with Maryville (Mo.) coming out of high school.
"I am excited to welcome Jane and Sam to the Titan Family," said head coach
Madeline Dugan. "They are going to be great mid-year additions to the culture we established in the fall. Jane will bring more depth and competition to our defense and Sam will be a great addition to our goalie squad."
Peck did not see any action at La Salle last year, but was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. In high school, she was a three-year letterwinner and was tabbed First Team All-Region as a senior, helping her squad to a Division II state runner-up appearance. She was also selected to the OHSGLCA Senior All-Star Showcase.
She played club with Burning River (now known as Maxim) and helped her team to several national and local tournaments, including the 2021 Brine National Cup Open Division, where she made the Brine/CSE National Cup All-Tournament Team. Among her other accolades was being selected to the Under Armor All-American Spotlight Team and the Highlight-Her All-Star Team.
Gargiulo was a four-year letterwinner in high school who enrolled at Maryville in the fall. As a prep, she was a four-year starter and two-time team captain. She was selected All-Conference and All-Section as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and Honorable Mention All-State as a senior.
She tallied 410 saves a 50.0 save percentage and 69 ground balls in her career and set school records in saves per game with 17 as a sophomore. Gargiulo played club with Lakeshore Lacrosse and helped that team win several summer events.
The Titans will begin the 2024 season on the road at New Hampshire on Feb. 17.
