WINDSOR, Ontario (2/9/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team ended the Windsor Challenge on Saturday as the red, white, and blue continue to get ready for the Horizon League Championships.
In his collegiate debut in the event, freshman
Joshua Neary was fifth with 3,556 points, good for 10th in school history. His best event came in the 60-meter hurdles as he was second in a time of 9.27, and was also fourth in the 1,000-meters in 3:00.25.
Senior
Gabriel Baumchen made the finals of the regular 60mH and claimed 11th in 8.97.
Sophomore
Joshua Otten clocked 2:33.61 for 12th in the 1,000m, while junior
Nicholas Fringer and freshman
Elijah Jorgensen were 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 3,000m at 9:22.11 and 9:32.79, a career-best for Fringer.
Sophomore
Anthony Yip was 11th in the weight with a throw of 10.77-meters and then posted a career-best 11.24 mark in the shot put for 13th.
On day one of the meet on Friday, graduate senior
Zachary Zaborney was 10th with a leap of 12.49m and senior
Evan Eding was right behind him taking 11th in 12.15m in the triple jump.
Detroit Mercy will have one final tune-up before the postseason starts as the red, white and blue compete in Michigan's Silverston Invite on Friday.
