Leavell Earns MAC Defensive Player Of The Week

DETROIT (4/30/2024) -- Off a career-tying performance, University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse junior Meredith Leavell was selected the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week. 

It is the second time this season she has earned the weekly accolade. 

In the regular season finale on the road, Leavell posted a season-high and career-tying 17 saves, allowing just five goals, in 45 minutes of action in the win at Butler.  It was her eighth game on the year with double-digit saves and the fourth allowing less then 10 goals. 

She is currently third in the MAC and 18th in DI with 156 saves, third in the league and 17th in the nation with 9.3 saves per game, third in the league and 49th in the country with a .445 save percentage and third in the MAC with a 13.3 goals against average. 

Leavell and the Titans will open up the MAC postseason on Thursday as the red, white and blue will square off against top-seeded Central Michigan, with first draw set for 1:00 p.m.
