BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (8/15/2024) -- Justice Tillotson scored the first goal of the season for Detroit Mercy on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough as the Titans fell 3-1 at Bowling Green.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the host Falcons (1-0) responded with three unanswered goals to come away with the season-opening win.
A Hailey Matthews corner kick in the eighth minute bounced around in the box before being knocked in by Tillotson to make it 1-0. It remained that way until late in the first half, as BGSU knotted the game at 1-1 in the 41st minute. The teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Bowling Green found the back of the net for a second time in the 48th minute. The Titans did their best to find the equalizer, but could not convert on a couple of opportunities as the Falcons added an insurance goal late in the second half.
Chantelle Symes played the first 45 minutes in goal for Detroit Mercy, making one save, while Marisa Silver replaced her at the start of the second half and made two saves in the final 45 minutes.
Detroit Mercy will return to Titan Field for its home opener against Utah Valley on Sunday night. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
