RICHMOND, Ky. (9/8/2024) -- Sophomore
David Swab beat his career low by five strokes to finish just outside the top 20 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team finished up its season opener in Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Shootout on Sunday.
Detroit Mercy posted an 875 (294-287-293) to earn seventh, just four strokes off the top five, at the par 71, 6,700-yard University Club at Arlington.
After registering two straight 1-over 72s to start the event, Swab back today with an even-par 71 to share 21st with a career-best 215 (72-72-71). His final round included three birdies and 12 pars as he had a team-high 10 birdies with 32 pars on the weekend.
Junior
Marko Banic placed 43rd with a career-tying 221 (76-70-75) and sophomores
Mason Sokolowski (77-72-73) and
Gowtham Nalluri (73-75-74) tied for 44th with a 222. Manic knocked in a team-high 35 pars with six birdies as his career-low second round included four birdies, while Sokolowski's final round 2-over 73 saw him record eight pars and four birdies to end just two shots away from his career best.
Freshman
Harshan Juttu claimed 56th in his collegiate debut with a 224 (74-75-75) and redshirt freshmanÂ
Ethan Oblak also made his debut and was 65th with a 230 (78-73-79).
UDM will have a week off before competing in Oakland's Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate Sept. 14-15.
