DETROIT (1-17-25) – The Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing teams will compete in their first dual meet of the season at the Lawrence Winter Duals Meet on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Buchanan Kewitt Wellness Center, beginning at 9 am.
Meet Information & Schedule:

Parking: Visitor parking is available at Chapman Hall or the Lawrence Memorial Chapel as well as along many of the streets around campus.
Format:
The event will consist of 2 reps of round robin for a total of 6 rounds with each team fencing each team twice. We will run a two strip format per gender with sabre and epee starting first and foil starting after the completion of sabre.

Wayne State Danosi Open Recap (1/11/25):
• Rangel went a perfect 5-0 in pool play and 4-0 in the 32-man/women bracket to claim the first-place title.
• Mysiorek went 4-1 in pool play and 4-1 in the bracket to advance to the final four and finish fourth overall.

Sophia Baez went 4-2 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket, falling in the round of eight.
Northwestern Remenyik Recap (10/23/24):
• Freshman
Helena Linares had a solid collegiate debut, going 3-3 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket round falling by just one point (15-14) in the round of 16 to finish 15th out of 63 competitors.

Sophia Baez also had a solid collegiate debut, going 4-2 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket advancing to the round of 16 to finish 16th out of 45 competitors.

Arturo Rangel went a perfect 6-0 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket round to finish in 18th place out of 105 competitors.

Nathan Mysiorek went 4-1 in pool play and 1-1 in the bracket round to finish in 18th place out of 52 competitors.

2024 Mysiorek Highlights:
• Went 2-3 in Round 1 Pool #1 to advance to the Round #2 Pool where and went 1-11 to finish 12th overall 2024 NCAA Midwest Fencing Championships.
• Qualified for 2024 NCAA Midwest Fencing Championships
• Posted an eighth-place medalist finish in the sabre out of 19 fencers to lead Detroit Mercy at the 2024 Central Collegiate Fencing Championships.
• Went 3-3 in Pool #1 play to advance to the final eight bracket before falling to the top seed and eventual runner-up Luca Fioretto from Ohio State. He also posted four wins in the team competition.
• Recorded three wins to advance to the semi-final round in the 64-man Senior Mixed Sabre Bracket to finish third at the Wayne State Danosi Open
• Posted 12 wins in the epee to lead the Titans at the Northwestern Duals.
• Led the way for the men's sabre squad with 11 overall wins at the DeCicco Duals hosted by Notre Dame
• Had quite the collegiate debut posting a perfect 3-0 individual record in the sabre against Michigan and 2-1 mark against Wayne State to go 5-1 overall helping the Detroit Mercy men's sabre team to wins over WSU and U-M at the Titan Invitational.
2024 Rangel Highlights:
• Went 1-5 in Round 1 Pool #3 and didn't advance to Round #2 and finished 16th overall. 2024 NCAA Midwest Fencing Championships.
• Qualified for 2024 NCAA Midwest Fencing Championships
• Finished 18th in the individual epee competition and won a team-high eight matches in the team competition at the 2024 Central Collegiate Fencing Championships.
• Recorded three wins to advance to the semi-final round in the 64-man Senior Mixed Sabre Bracket to finish third at the Wayne State Danosi Open.
• Posted 15 wins in the epee to lead the Titans at the Northwestern Duals.
• Recorded six wins for the epee team at the DeCicco Duals hosted by Notre Dame.
