DETROIT (1-31-25) – The Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing teams will compete in their third straight dual meet of the season at the annual and prestigious Schiller Duals (formerly known as the Northwestern Duals) hosted by Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2, beginning at 9 am in Evanston, Ill.
DeCicco Duals Highlights (1/26):
• Sophomore
Arturo Rangel led the way with 13 overall wins on the men's team while freshman
•
Sophia Baez lead was tops on the women's team with 14 wins as Detroit Mercy completed competition at the DeCicco Duals hosted by Notre Dame.

Sophia Miller and
Sophia Baez each went 3-0 to earn a weapon win over cross-town rival Wayne State in the sabre competition
• Miller (3-0) and Baez (2-1) combined for a 5-1 mark to earn a weapon win over Florida in the sabre competition
• The women's team recorded a 15-12 team win over Georgia Teach
• Freshman
Phillip Hunter (foil) was second on the men's team with 11 wins
• Freshman
Lusciana Ruiz (epee) ranked second on the women's side with eight wins
• The men's team fell shot by just a single point (11-10) vs Northwestern

Arturo Rangel put on a show going a perfect 15-0 in the epee competition

Julissa Labra-Avila let the way, picking up 12 wins in the epee competition.

Phillip Hunter recorded 10 wins in the foil competition
• Senior
Hannah Benford had 11 total wins in the foil competition
• Newcomer Shana Dupin was the third women's fencer to record double-digit wins with 10 in the foil competition
• The women's team posted a 3-0 win over Marquette/Whitewater in all three weapons
• The women also won 2-1 over Purdue with a 5-4 decision in the epee
• The women's team concluded the competition with a 6-1 win over Marquette/Whitewater in the epee
Wayne State Danosi Open Highlights (1/11/25):
• Rangel went a perfect 5-0 in pool play and 4-0 in the 32-man/women bracket to claim the first-place title.
• Mysiorek went 4-1 in pool play and 4-1 in the bracket to advance to the final four and finish fourth overall.

Sophia Baez went 4-2 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket, falling in the round of eight.
Northwestern Remenyik Highlights (10/23/24):
• Freshman
Helena Linares had a solid collegiate debut, going 3-3 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket round falling by just one point (15-14) in the round of 16 to finish 15th out of 63 competitors.
• Freshman
Sophia Baez also had a solid collegiate debut, going 4-2 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket advancing to the round of 16 to finish 16th out of 45 competitors.
• Sophomore
Arturo Rangel went a perfect 6-0 in pool play and 2-1 in the bracket round to finish in 18th place out of 105 competitors.

Nathan Mysiorek went 4-1 in pool play and 1-1 in the bracket round to finish in 18th place out of 52 competitors.
