Bartlett & Bracket Tally Wins At Akron

Freshman Luke Bracket won the 60-meter hurdles at Akron.

AKRON, Ohio (1/31/2025) – Senior Cody Bartlett won for the second time this year and freshman Luke Brackett captured his first collegiate title as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team recorded some quality results at the Akron Invite on Friday.

Bartlett once again cleared 1.95-meters in the high jump for the win, the same height that gave him the gold at Notre Dame in the season opener. He was also fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.08m.

Brackett won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.67 seconds.

Junior Jaden McKenzie recorded a pair of personal records as he was fourth in the 400m at 48.90 and seventh in the 200m, clocking 22.09, the ninth-best indoor time in school history.

Sophomore Christopher Russelburg garnered a silver in the 5,000m with a time of 15:40.86, ahead of fifth-place sophomore teammate Kenyon Popiel, who crossed the line in 16:00.72.

Junior Joshua Otten claimed third in the mile with a run of 4:15.59 and freshman Jack Gonzalez had a 6.26m leap in the long jump for fifth.

Closing out the meet was the 4x400-meter relay team of Otten, McKenzie, sophomore Mike Ferguson and freshman James Wallace, who posted a runner-up effort of 3:18.74.

The Titans will return to the track next weekend as they once again cross the border to Canada to run in the Windsor Team Challenge.
