Titans Get Ready For NCAA Great Lakes Regionals

Freshman Addie Stanley and the Titans will run in their second postseason event.
DETROIT (11/11/2025) -- After some fast times at the Horizon League Championships, the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team will now gear up for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday.

The event will be held at the Angel Mounds Course in Evansville, Indiana. The women's 6k will start at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k at 11:00 a.m.

Fans can follow all the action by clicking here.

The 6k championship event will include nationally-ranked squads Notre Dame (5), Michigan State (23) and Wisconsin (25).

The Titans are expected to run seniors Nina Pizzo and Claire Hunt, juniors Alaina Burns and Helana Napiorkowski, sophomores Aubrey Mery and Kirsten Koss and freshman Addie Stanley.

Detroit Mercy placed seventh at the Horizon League Championships, with Pizzo leading the way earning Second Team All-Horizon League by finishing 14th in a career-best 21:38, fifth in the Titan 6k record book.

Napiorkowski also had a career-low 22:29 for 40th, while Hunt clocked a career mark of 22:30 for 42nd, both top 15 in school history.

Last year, UDM was 28th. Evie Wright '25 placed 140th in 22:06 and Pizzo was 160th in 22:25.

The best finish for the women at the regionals was 16th in 1997, as three harriers were in the top 100. UDM was 17th in 1987 and 19th in 1993.

The best individual finish was Kim Hemstreet's '02 12th-place run in 2002 at 21:45, which sent her to the NCAA Championships. She recorded a pair of top-50 efforts in her career. Ruthie Cook ran 21:50 for 26th in 2001, while Angie Lefere '98 was 40th in 1997 and Louisa Coppola '14 placed 47th in 2013.

The top 25 runners will be named All-Region, while the top two teams at each regional championship meet automatically qualify for the NCAA Division I championship. From each NCAA regional meet, the first four student-athletes not on a qualifying team will be automatic qualifiers to the NCAA championship meet. All individual automatic qualifiers must finish in the top 25 within their region.

Thirteen (13) at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. This selection will be conducted on the Saturday following regional competition unless extraordinary circumstances arise. The committee will also select two at-large individuals by identifying the highest non-qualifying individual finishers at the regional meets. All individual at-large qualifiers must finish in the top 25 within their region.
