Leah Bodnar scored four goals and registered an assist on Sunday afternoon as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team opened their spring break trip with a 13-8 victory at Kennesaw State.
Detroit Mercy (2-2) had seven different goal scorers on the afternoon. Senior Maddy Camm, junior Alyssa Jarvis, and freshman Jaeda Jensen had two goals each. Sophomore Erin Balbontin scored her first career goal, while freshman Tunie Mullen and Gabrianna Vasquez netted a goal each. For Mullen it was her fourth goal of the year while Vasquez tallied her first career goal.
Senior Meredith Leavell made 10 saves in net, while picking up five ground balls. Camm matched her with five ground balls of her own while causing three turnovers and coming down with three draw controls.
The host Owls (2-6) opened the game with a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, before going ahead 6-2 midway through the second period. UDM was able to fight back and went into the halftime break trailing 6-4.
After KSU scored the first goal of the second half, Detroit Mercy rattled off four straight to take an 8-7 lead into the final quarter, where they outscored the Owls 5-1 to earn the win.
As a team the Titans were outshot 31-22, and were 17-of-24 on clear attempts.
UDM will continue their spring break trip with a game Wednesday at Furman set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
