Sophomore Gowtham Nalluri tied his career 54-hole best at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS (4/1/2025) -- Sophomore Mason Sokolowski finished with a career-low, while sophomore Gowtham Nalluri tied his career mark as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team completed its season opener in the Don Benbow Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

Sokolowski tied for 16th with a career-best 212 (72-69-71), eight shots better than his previous career low. A day after tying his career round with a 1-under 69, he ended the event with a 1-over 71 as he tallied two birdies and 13 pars.

In the competition, he led the team with 40 pars - tied for the seventh most - while knocking in six birdies in the 54 holes.

Nalluri was just outside the top 20, sharing 21st with a 214 (70-73-71) as he ended the final 18 with a 1-over 71, registering three birdies and 12 pars. He tied for 10th in the field with nine birdies, tied for third on the par 5's with a -3, 4.50 average, and tied for fourth on the par 3's with a -1, 2.91 mark.

Sophomore David Swab shared 76th with a 224 (77-73-74) and had the team's only eagle as he holed in his third shot on the par 5 third hole en route to his 4-over 74. Senior Marko Banic was just behind him, posting a 275 (74-76-75) for a share of 79th.

Overall, UDM was 11th with an 875 (293-291-291) at the par 70, 6,551-yard Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Detroit Mercy will have a short turnaround as they play in NKU's Jewell Invitational next week, Apr. 7-8, at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
