Gowtham Nalluri is tied for 10
th to lead the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team after the first round of the Horizon League Championship on Saturday from the Sunshine State.
After the opening round, the Titans are ninth with a 310 at the par 72, 6,766-yard El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort. The Titans sit just five strokes back of the top five after day one.
Nalluri fired a 3-over 75 on a breezy day where the scoring average for the field was 77.34. He began the day with a birdie on #10 and knocked in another on #14 for a one-under opening nine, finishing the round with 11 pars and two birdies.
Senior
Marko Banic is tied for 24
th after an opening round 77 that included 10 pars and back-to-back birdies on #13 and #14.
Sophomores
David Swab and
Mason Sokolowski sit in a tie for 31
st after the duo posted a pair of 79s. Swab recorded 11 pars and a birdie, while Sokolowski made nine pars and a birdie of his own. Junior
Austin Brancaccio is tied for 38
th after shooting an 80 with 10 pars.
The Titans tee off in the second round of the championship beginning at 8:40 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
