Titans Win Three, Post 12 Top-Three Efforts At Golden Grizzly Invite

The 4x400 team celebrates at the end of their race

ROCHESTER, Mich. (4/5/2025) -- Senior Evie Wright and freshman Meghan Koss earned gold, and the 4x400 had a come-from-behind win as the University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team started the spring at the Golden Grizzly Open on Saturday.

Wright captured the 5,000-meters for her first collegiate gold in a career-best time of 17:38.74, the fifth-best run in school history.

Koss crossed the finish line first in the 100m in 12:06, the fourth-best time in school history. She also claimed fourth in the 200m in 25.21 and ran a leg on the runner-up 4x100 meter relay.

The 4x400 quartet of juniors McKenzie McNitt and Jada Clark and sophomores Kayla Wize and Gabriela Gashaj were victorious in 4:00.58 as McNitt overtook Ferris State in the final strides.

McNitt was also second in the 400m in 58.30 and was part of the second-place 4x100, while Gashaj earned third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.13.

Junior Zoe Morris leaped 1.60-meters in the high jump for second and senior Zoe Madden was second in the long jump at 5.33m and third in the triple at 10.18m.

In the throws, freshman Lyla Mullins earned fourth in the shot put with a heave of 12.26m.

The Titans will be back in action next week as UDM will have competitors at Central Michigan's Chippewa Challenge and Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic.
