Leah Bodnar registered a goal and tied her season-high with three assists to surpass 100 career points on Sunday afternoon, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team came up short at rival Eastern Michigan, losing 13-8.
The Titans (5-6, 2-1 MAC) made a late push in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles (6-6, 2-2 MAC) 5-0 in the period, but were unable to get any closer.
Detroit Mercy found themselves in an early hole when they trailed 10-2 at the half and 13-3 after three quarters.
Junior Libby Cuckler scored three goals to earn a hat trick, while fellow junior Alyssa Jarvis added two goals of her own and a team high three draw controls.
Freshman Jaeda Jensen also scored for the Titans, while senior Maddy Camm scored a goal, picked up three ground balls, and caused a turnover. Between the pipes, senior Meredith Leavell made 10 saves for Detroit Mercy.
After Jarvis scored the first goal of the contest, the host Eagles responded with a 6-0 run to go ahead 6-1 in the second quarter. Camm stopped the run momentarily with a goal with 5:41 remaining in the second, however EMU found the back of the net four more times to take a 10-2 halftime lead.
Detroit Mercy continued to struggle offensively in the third as they were only able to score once. Jensen added her 17th goal of the year on a free position shot.
In the fourth, the Titans finally found their footing with five goals, but were unable to dig themselves out of the hole as EMU came away with the victory.
