Titans On Their Way To Horizon League Outdoor Championships

Sophomore Anthony Yip is ranked 10th in the discus in the Horizon League.
DETROIT (5/7/2025) -- The postseason is now here as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team prepares to compete for top finishes at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The three-day event starts on Friday, May 9, with the decathlon, heptathlon and discus at Noon, javelin at 4:00 p.m., and running events at 7:00 p.m. Saturday will begin at Noon and Sunday at 10:00 a.m., at Farmers National Bank Field at Youngstown State.

There will be live results, and all running events will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Detroit Mercy has several student-athletes ranked in the top 10 in the Horizon League in their respective event.

Senior Luke Adamczyk is the highest-rated Titan, ranking second in the javelin with his 48.48-meter toss.

Junior Jaden McKenzie is third in the 400m with a time of 48.32, while freshman James Wallace is sixth in the 100m in 10.70 and seventh in the 200m in 21.86. Sophomore Nicholas Johnson is also 10th in the 100m in 10.84.

Freshman Luke Bracket is listed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.55) and 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.93), while freshman Andrew Drakos is sixth in the 400mH (56.72), just ahead of sophomore teammate Joshua Neary (57.13). Senior Cody Bartlett ranks 10th in the high jump (1.98m), while sophomore Anthony Yip is 10th in the discus (45.44m).

During the indoor campaign, the Titans were fifth with 38 points and had one winner in Joshua Otten - who is redshirting the outdoor season - claiming first in 4:13.53. Last year at the league meet, UDM took sixth with 34 points as McKenzie totaled 21 of those by finishing fourth in the 200 and 400m, as well as running a leg on the third-place 4x100 and fourth-place 4x400-meter relay.

In its history, the men's team won the championship in 2003, while placing second in 1998 and 2000. UDM has earned 21 top-five finishes and six top-three efforts. Detroit Mercy has also captured 59 individual titles and eight relay winners.

Matt Groh '03 posted 11 wins in the shot put, discus, and hammer in his career, while Angelo Finnie '03 recorded nine wins in the 110-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
