Mullins, Wright Tally Top-Five Finishes In Day One Of #HLTF Outdoor Championships

Senior Evie Wright posted a PR performance for fifth in the 10,000 meters

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (5/9/2025) -- The first day of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships saw the University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team register eight points with a pair of fifth-place finishes on Friday.

The event is being held at Farmers National Bank Field at Youngstown State.

Freshman Lyla Mullins started the championships with a season-best throw of 39.65 meters in the discus for fifth.

Senior Evie Wright ended the day with a career-best run of 36:20.72 for fifth in the 10,000-meters, which ranks third in school history.

Junior Claire Hunt was 15th in the 1500m with a PR of 4:47.66, while sophomore Grace Steffes was 16th in the javelin with a career mark of 27.06m.

The heptathlon also started as freshman Haley Lipscomb sits in 12th place with 1,547 points, with her best effort taking seventh in the 200m in 26.30.

Day two of the championships will begin at 9:00 a.m.
