DETROIT (6/26/2025) -- University of Detroit Mercy sophomore Gowtham Nalluri is one step closer to playing in the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship after winning a qualifier in Ohio on Tuesday.
Nalluri shot a 3-under 68 at the Moraine Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. Nalluri parred his first two holes and then tallied birdies on three and four. After three more pars, he birdied the par 5 eighth hole and then capped his win with three pars and a birdie in his final four holes.
The next stage of qualifying will not be determined until July 2, as 19 sites will host final qualifiers between July 14-30.
The 125th U.S. Amateur Championship is scheduled for Aug. 11-17 at The Olympic Club's Lake Course in San Francisco, California.
Nalluri just finished his sophomore season as one of four Titans to start all nine tournaments, ending the year tied for third on the team with a 74.67 average. He carded scores in the 70's in 23 of his 24 rounds on the year, with two at par or better, and finished in the top three on the team in six of his nine events, including leading the team once.
